Roneé Gladden Daven Salmi Southern New Hampshire University PSY 328 Module Two Journal Template First, you may want to revisit your submission for the Module One Journal assignment. Next, complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. Describe what a psychoanalyst like Freud or Jung would be looking for in the responses to a projective test like the Thematic Apperception Test. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. - Psychoanalyst Freud would actively listen to what is being said about the pictures being presented with the Thematic Apperception Test. “Freud's life work was mainly attempts of finding ways to penetrate subtle and elaborate camouflage that obscures processes of personality (McLeod, 2018).” Freud was the type of individual that would listen to an individual's perspective but would not take it as the sole truth. Using the lens of a psychoanalyst, reflect on your Module One Journal responses by answering the following questions in 2 to 5 sentences each: o Describe what role your unconscious might have played in your responses. Are there any defense mechanisms present in your story? - The role my unconscious played in my responses was imagining I was in the picture myself, closing my eyes and feeling, seeing, and putting myself in the picture to gain a better understanding or perspective on what was happening in the picture as there was not enough information given outright for me to formulate an opinion. Thinking about what I would do if I was there in their shoes and how I would react, feel, etc. Which allowed me to think deeper. I do not believe there are any defense mechanisms present in my story.
o Describe how you characterized any underlying conflicts present in your story. Think about drives and the parts of personality (id, ego superego) in your response. - In my story I used logical reasoning, common sense knowledge, and imagination to formulate and articulate my response. Quite naturally when an individual protests, in the case of my story—three disabled individuals holding up signs on a walkway sidewalk, they were offended or wronged in some form of fashion, because the disabled individuals were holding up signs and blocking off a walkway, lead me to believe that maybe they were protesting disabled persons rights or an event that they didn’t believe in. Ego played a part in my response as it came mostly from assumption and logical reasoning than emotional reasoning and morals. o Describe how you characterized the interactions of the people in your story. What could this tell us about attachment and relationships? - I characterized the interactions of the people in my story based off of imagery. Due to not having any extra context from the storyline, I imagined myself there in the setting, I used what was being shown in the picture to formulate my narrative. I used what I could see, past experiences in my life and of others lives to draw conclusions and took that and created what interaction between the individuals could have been used. o Describe how much your own life experience informed the story you told. - My own life experiences informed the story I told because I took what I have learned about protesting, right versus wrong, judgmental behavior, how some individuals are perceived as abnormal compared to what they perceive normal to be and applied it to the
story. I broke my ankle in 2020 in three places and had to learn how to walk again, after becoming weight barring again and after physical therapy, I was told my ankle would never be 100% again and that I would possibly walk with a limp and need a cane. For about a year after being completely healed I needed special accommodations everywhere I went, I walked with a limp and a cane for months, and had hard periods of time going up and down the stairs. It was almost unbearable as I was still feeling pain and feeling quite embarrassed at myself for my new reality. I gained a newfound perspective on how disabled individuals might feel and the challenges, and adversity they may face daily. If anything, this life experience has taught me how to perceive this storyline. After considering the role of the unconscious and projection in the story you told, describe another interpretation for your image. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. - Another interpretation of the image I viewed could be the three disabled individuals protesting against an event that was taking place that maybe didn’t accommodate disabled individuals, so they felt like they weren’t included or welcomed. Or maybe they are protesting a new law that would make disabled individuals lives harder and more discriminated against. Describe what a greater awareness of projection means for other interactions you might have with people in a social or professional setting. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. - A greater awareness of projection for other interactions I might have with people in a social or professional setting means that I am more aware of my surroundings, of myself, and other individuals. What their body language gives off, their tone, their words.

Sometimes the setting is also important as it can help explain further. Having this greater awareness means that I would be more understanding and aware of individuals feelings, emotions, and personalities. 1
