RUNNING HEAD: Winner is 1 And the Winner is… Essay 5 Alyson Jones Liberty University Online December 9, 2019
The Winner 2 And the Winner is… Love, conformity, and obedience. These are three, of many, concepts discussed this week. These are the three concepts that I would choose if a church asked me to do a study. The reason I chose these three topics is because I believe that God created us to love one another and to love him, we aren’t supposed to conform to the ways of the world, and we are supposed to remain obedient to our parents and to God. Love, what is love? Love comes in many different forms. Sternberg believes that there are three basic components to love and that each component characterizes different types of loving relationships (Nevid,2018) . There is love between friends, love between family and then there is love between God and His creation. God’s love is the strongest kind of love there is. It is unconditional. It’s important to remember that God calls us to love one another and to love Him. These are the two greatest commandments. I also chose conformity because that is something that is very prevalent in the world today. Everyone is doing something because someone else is doing it. Conformity may also affect how (and who) we love, to fit the standards of others around us(Nevid,2018). In the Bible, God tells us not to conform to the world. He tells us to be in the world, but not of it. If we conform to the things and the people around us, we can quickly loose sight of God and His blessings for us. He created each and every person on the planet to be different and unique and unfortunately, everyone wants to blend in and not be noticed. To not stand out or be noticed means to conform to something that makes you blend it. Maybe someone who is a Christian is hanging out with people who do drugs and they’re tired of being made fun of for being a “goody-two-shoes,” so they decide to do what everyone else in the group is doing. Conforming to things and to people who do things that are dishonorable to God, is not what God
The Winner 3 wants. We should be living our lives everyday to honor God. The things we say and do every day should be God honoring. The last thing I want to discuss is obedience. If we don’t love others and love God, we are being disobedient. Yelling at someone who cut you off in traffic? That isn’t loving someone and it’s conforming to the ideals of how to drive. Both things go against what God has commanded us to do. We should always obey God, no matter what. Should we always obey an authority figure? During the experiment discussed in the book, it seemed that people obeyed inflicting pain on someone else so they didn’t get in trouble. In other words, social validation. I do not believe we should obey authority figures if what they are asking goes against what God has commanded. He is the ultimate authority and should be obeyed no matter what. All three of these things are things that are prevalent in this world. These are things that God asks us to do in certain ways and yet the worldview is very different than the Christian worldview.
