Running head: REACTION ESSAY 1 Reaction Essay: How Babies Think Alyson Jones Liberty University
REACTION ESSAY 2 Reaction Essay I chose to read the essay entitled “How Babies Think.” This essay talked about the different experiments and studies conducted to determine how children under the age of four think about and learn things (Gopnik,2010). Some of the studies conducted included having children pick out a certain toy after watching the experimenter take five toys out of the box; four of one color, and one of another. Then the child was asked to hand the experimenter a toy from the box and he/she would hand them a toy that was the color of the four items in the experimenter’s hand (Gopnik, 2010). I learned that babies and young children seem to learn from statistical patterns (Gopnik, 2010). They also seem to observe closely and learn from those observations as well. Babies are smart and this article confirms that. I used to think that babies weren’t very smart until I watched my cousin, who is turning seven this year, grow up. She is so observant and has been ever since she was a baby. I was always amazed that she would copy things I did and said. I had to be careful around her. Just as babies watch and learn from their surroundings, experimenters watch and learn from the people they study. That is how research on the human development is studied. This assignment helped me dissect an article so that I could see and find the important parts of the article. As I continue to dissect articles in future assignments, it will help me understand how to correctly execute a research paper. I believe it is also something I should apply to my own papers to see if I have included the correct information. It is important to understand how a paper is written and executed in order to correctly execute your own paper. This is something I know that I must work on as I further my education.
