1 Project Three Eivor Raven-Eye Southern New Hampshire University PSY 260: Statistical Applications for the Behavioral and Social Sciences Nathaniel Thomas October 20, 2023
2 Project Three Topic from Project Three Milestone: I am choosing "Racial Discrimination". Given the past few years with things such as the George Floyd murder and the political tension that's been on the rise since 2020 I felt like this was a most pertinent topic. I saw it happen a lot in my hometown in the south and it's primarily POC and there was so much hate and discrimination and civil unrest and unequal treatment. Most of those in authority cops, teachers, government officials were white while most of the population was POC. Describe the key findings from your interpretation of the data for a general audience. Your response should be about 2 to 4 sentences. Include the following in your response: Easy-to-understand statistical values (e.g., percentages) According to the data presented in the united states white individuals are less likely than black individuals to acknowledge racism or racial prejudice. Out of the white participants only 39% thought that racial disparities are due to racial discrimination. While the number raises to 71% for the black participants saying there is a racial prejudice. Summarize the background information for the scientific community. Your response should be about 3 to 5 sentences. Include the following in your response: Introduction to the research topic Credible background sources to support the introduction to the topic. Note: In the Project Three Milestone, you reviewed credible sources to create your annotated bibliography. Use those credible sources in this section or additional credible sources if needed. The researchers were able to retrieve credible data that was from Pew research center as well as data from Paul Croll in his paper titled Ethnic and research studies. Pew's data analysis focused on the separations between black and white individuals as well as the mistreatment and discrimination of black individuals in the United states. According to the data of those surveyed white people where often better off financially compared to their black counterparts. According to Croll (2013) diverse perspectives from the black and white individuals showed the possibility for barriers and beneficial positions for the two categories. Overall the study demonstrated that future studies on racial discrimination should not disregard people's feelings on white privilege as its a very prevalent issue. Describe the major statistical findings for the scientific community. Your response should be about 3 to 7 sentences. Include the following in your response: An explanation of at least two major findings
3 An explanation contextualizing the graphs you will include in the next item to ensure that the reader understands their purpose in the brief According to the data 71% of black individuals and 39% of white individuals reply "yes" to any question regarding racial prejudice. Black individuals responded yes the result is 71% tt35/49. White individuals who respond yes is then divided by the total number of participants yielding 39% tt85/216. From these statistics we see a gap between the two groups has statistical significance. Represent the major statistical findings for the scientific community with graphs . Your response should include a graph for each finding to support your description.

4 Provide a concise summary appropriate for a general audience. Include the following in your response: A restatement of why this research was completed and reminder of the key findings The application of the findings The Department of Justice was interested in race and discrimination in the policing of the united states thus this research was done one their behalf. With a difference between 71% and 39% showed black individuals were way more likely that their white counterparts to experience discrepancies based on racial discrimination. These findings can be used to educate white individuals and white privilege and be used to help with legislative change against racism and discrimination. We can also see the statistical differences between the two groups as it shows white individuals are more prone to engage in discriminating behavior compared to black individuals. Researchers will be able to use this data to preform their own studies about racial prejudice in the united states.
