2 Project Three Milestone Select the topic and explain why you selected that topic. Your response should be about 2 to 3 sentences. I am choosing "Racial Discrimination". Given the past few years with things such as the George Floyd murder and the political tension that's been on the rise since 2020 I felt like this was a most pertinent topic. I saw it happen a lot in my hometown in the south and it's primarily POC and there was so much hate and discrimination and civil unrest and unequal treatment. Most of those in authority cops, teachers, government officials were white while most of the population was POC. Create an annotated bibliography entry for your first article . Your response should be about 8 to 10 sentences that include the following elements: A description of the main purpose or goal of the article A description of the approach the authors took in their research In the first article "On Views of Race and Inequality, Blacks and Whites Are Worlds Apart" the purpose is to understand and show the gap in how we view inequality of race in this country. The article breaks down kay issues where black people and above or below other racial demographics in the united states. The findings of this article came from a study done by the PEW research center preformed in 2016, the study included 3069 adults with 1719 were white and 1604 were black and 654 were Hispanic. The data in
3 this article reflects that Black and white people have a seriously distinctive look about the life of black people in the U.S. With large gaps with 'blacks are more likely than whites to say black people are treated less fairly in the workplace (a difference of 42 percentage points), when applying for a loan or mortgage (41 points), in dealing with the police (34 points), in the courts (32 points), in stores or restaurants (28 points), and when voting in elections (23 points). By a margin of at least 20% blacks are more likely than whites to say racial discrimination (70% vs. 36%), lower quality schools (75% vs. 53%) and lack of jobs (66% vs. 45%) are major reasons that blacks may have a harder time getting ahead than whites'(PEW,2016). Create an annotated bibliography entry for your second article . Your response should be about 8 to 10 sentences that include the following elements: A description of the main purpose or goal of the article A description of the approach the authors took in their research The purpose of the article "Explanations for racial disadvantage and racial advantage: beliefs about both sides of inequality in America." is to show and break down how peoples views on racism and race inequality is based on their beliefs and attitudes toward both sides of racialized society. This article takes advantage of survey data from the American Mosaic Project to broaden our scope of inquiry about racial inequality by examining beliefs about white advantage in addition to beliefs about African American disadvantage. The study consisted of about 2081 people that were called back in 2003.

4 They used a split ballot that threw people into one of two groups and assigned each group a set of questions on black vs white advantages. The data shows that we need deeper context to the situation and better understanding of the whys in order to understand the attitudes and beliefs on racial inequality as a whole. Describe the difference in communication style of the two articles. Your response should be about 3 to 5 sentences. Consider the following in your response: Do the articles reach a similar conclusion? Do the articles present similar information? Do the articles consider the role of visuals in the same way? Do the articles present the findings in a convincing way, and is one more effective? How do the tone and style of the articles compare, and what does that mean for the reader? Both articles seemed to come down to the same conclusion that black people are more likely to face racial inequality in all aspects of life that would put them ahead or equal to white people. Croll gives both sides of racial inequality by trying to understand the who, what, when, where, and why. Saying the situation needs context to form the attitude and beliefs around the disadvantages and white privilege. The articles had different visuals Pew used many different kinds of charts with different data while the other was only broken down by region. Pew provided much more in easier to follow data but I feel
5 Croll was more in depth. Both I found very enjoyable but Croll was a bit too all over the place I felt.
