FMST 210 17 September 2023 Week 2 Activity - Critique a Website https://www.verywellmind.com/ 1. While overviewing the website, Verywell Mind's main goal is to act as a source of education to those who seek psychological resources. There is information, recommendations, and articles that cover a variety of psychological and mental health- related topics that can either aid parents and their youth that provide information, advice, and guidance on the issues that affect most teenagers. Although most topics can be quite heavy, the website also provides counselling aid, relationship tips, online therapy, and self-care. 2. Overall, I think people consider and regard the website as a reliable source. References are included in the sources, and the website also outlines their "editorial process." Additionally, these resources include material that is based on evidence and claims to have been reviewed by a group of neurologists and psychiatrists. The website focuses on offering a sense of community and support through discussion boards and frequently has sympathetic overtones, normalizing the awkward conversations about mental health in the process. They are a private and informative website that doesn't seem to have been compromised. 3. Although the website does contain some adverts, which frequently serve as a source of income. However, it is accepted that the commercials are just that—ads. Additionally, all articles are attributed with having been vetted by experts with a range of degrees and are connected to pertinent themes in human development. It does not seem as though they publish the writing of unqualified authors. So, insignificant adverts does not compromise the website's reliability. Authors avoid expressing personal or political beliefs and instead focus on providing educational knowledge. 4. Yes, as the site employs clear language and aims to make information about mental health accessible to a wide range of audience members. Youth and adults will find it easier to search for advice and understand the information that is provided to them. Due to its thoughtful division into subcategories related to a single major issue, the website does not feel overbearing. Verywell Mind is an excellent resource that I would recommend the site
to friends and family as a resource for reading and browsing to learn more about human psychology.
