Hello class, Bottom-up modeling is a strategy in which individual components or details are analyzed and combined to form a complete understanding of a system or phenomenon. This approach starts from the bottom, focusing on specific details and gradually building up to broader understanding. On the other hand, top-down modeling involves starting with a broad perspective and then breaking it down into smaller components. Learning about these two different models can impact one's own research question. By understanding the strengths and limitations of each approach, researchers can better evaluate which model aligns with their specific research question and objectives. It can also help researchers consider alternative perspectives and approaches to address their research question, potentially leading to more comprehensive and insightful findings. Knowing when to use bottom-up versus top-down modeling depends on the nature of the research question and the available data or information. If there is already a well-established theory or hypothesis in the field, top-down modeling may be more appropriate to test or expand upon that theory. On the other hand, if there is limited or no existing theory or hypothesis, bottom-up modeling can be useful to gather data and observations to develop a new theory or explanation. -Corin
