Weight Loss Through Fitness and Nutrition Using Therapy Ryan Norris PSY 225 Southern New Hampshire University January 15, 2021 Weight Loss Through Fitness and Nutrition Using Therapy There are many ways to help increase healthy habits and rituals. The specific health behaviors that I would like to set as a goal would be unhealthy eating and indolent behavior. These are probably my two weakest areas. As we all can resort to eating unhealthily when we are emotional, others eat unhealthy as a lifestyle. Though some may become indolent when depressed, others take it as a challenge to move as little as possible. Trying to balance a healthy lifestyle can be very hard, especially if you work, go to school or are a parent. Maintaining healthy will not only promote a better mood it will also increase brain activity for learning and patience. When our mood is stable life becomes less hectic and overbearing. Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle go hand-in-hand (Kreuser, 2013). Some may say it’s a stigma, but the truth is, there are many reasons why indolence and obesity are usually in the same conversation. One of the most effective ways to keep your mood and metabolism high is to live an active life. Walking several times a week and eating healthy are vital to a long enjoyable life. There are so many issues that can arise living a sedentary and unhealthy life. Inflammation in the joints, arthritis, back pain and mood swings are just a few issues caused by this unhealthy lifestyle (Gavin, 2018). In order to change a lifestyle of obesity and indolent behavior one must dissect the behavior, by examining their thoughts and emotions. In psychology the term for this type of
Weight Loss Through Fitness and Nutrition Using Therapy therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT addresses individual’s key rationale of thinking. Most everyone can rationalize or explain their own behaviors, thoughts and feelings. Studies have shown, even in cancer patients, how important a healthy, nutritious and active lifestyle is for the human body. Not only can it help individuals lose weight and feel good it can also prevent cancer. In order to improve a client’s adherence to a long-term treatment, cognitive- behavioral strategies are used as the combination factors between dietary and physical activity (Razmpoosh, 2020). The major focus of the CBT will be dealing with why the emotions leads to the behavior. The best way to correct these emotions are to figure out the mental reasoning first. Once we understand the thought process behind the emotion we can start working. Changing the thought perspective will alter the emotion thus changing the behavior. With any life changes comes challenges. Stumbling blocks should be addressed by recognizing what leads to the negative thoughts. When boundaries are put into place individuals can start to change perspective to accountability instead of getting emotional. In real life setting individuals may feel pressured to fall back into these unhealthy choices. Ways to prevent this from happening consist of educating and discipline. Educating on healthier alternatives like packing a healthy lunch so the temptation to order food out is not there. Instead of sitting at the table gossiping after lunch having the discipline to go for a quick 15-minute walk. Psychologist can only do so much the client has to take the action steps to be successful. Preventing relapse may be impossible as relapse is a part of recovery (Schuon, 2020). When a client relapses the best way to help keep them motivated is to provide grace and to encourage their attempt. Support is so important to have when trying to change one’s behavior. Finding a good support unit is the best way to secure the boundaries and assume accountability. Without hard work and
