COU – 600: Research Methods and Program Evaluation Southern New Hampshire University Module Three Assignment Updated Research Question – What is the efficacy of Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E) when treating adults with an eating disorder? First Article – I chose this first article because there is evidence in this article to support the development of CBT-E. This article also provides comparative evidence to support the effectiveness of this form of therapy utilized to treat eating disorders. Additionally, there is a primary focus on the population of my choosing (adults) and information pertaining to more than one eating disorder. To conclude, this article was chosen to support me in answering my research question because there is an in depth look from varying perspectives via the utilization of the method that shows the evidence of this models’ effectiveness as a valid and appropriate treatment method for Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and atypical eating disorders. Knott, S., Woodward, D., Hoefkens, A., & Limbert, C. (2015). Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Bulimia Nervosa and Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified: Translation from Randomized Controlled Trial to a Clinical Setting .   Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy ,   43(6), 641-654. https://doi.org/10.1017/S1352465814000393 Second Article Citation – I chose this second article because again there is a focus on the effectiveness of CBT-E as it pertains specifically to Anorexia Nervosa (AN) which allows for me to gain a new angle from the perspective of AN. This article was also chosen for its’ unique focus directed at the transferring of the results of treatment into real-world settings outside of treatment and/or research settings. Additionally, this article provided a unique perspective pertaining to the
characterization, factors, experiences, traumas, etc. of the participants within this study given that the majority of these individuals ended up withdrawing from the study. To conclude, I chose this article to support me in answering my research question because as a result of the high dropout rate in this study it allowed and pushed for there to be a focus on the implementation of CBT-E by these professionals and evaluate their experiences as well. Kessler, U., Kleppe, M. M., Rekkedal, G. Å., Rø, Ø., & Danielsen, Y. (2022). Experiences when implementing enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy as a standard treatment for anorexia nervosa in outpatients at a public specialized eating-disorder treatment unit .   Journal of Eating Disorders,   10, 1-11. https://doi.org/10.1186/s40337-022-00536-7 Third Article – I chose this third and final article because it really allowed there to be an overarching support for this model of intervention in regard to all eating disorders. It also outlines the intense difficulties that both can be and are associated with the treatment of eating disorders. Additionally, I appreciated that there was additional comparative evidence between the utilization of CBT-E and other forms of interventions both combined and separate over the span of multiple studies. To conclude, I chose this article to support my research question because there is an acknowledgment that this form of intervention is still in its’ early stages of research and implementation, but looks at all information gathered thus far to derive a conclusion. Groff, S. E. (2015). Is Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy an Effective Intervention in Eating Disorders? A Review .
