Sofia Vieceli Jan 31, 2024 PSY302 Jamovi HW #2 Problem 1: Naomi is interested in the amount of television that preschoolers watch at home during the weekends. She asks the parents of 12 preschoolers how many hours, on average, their children spend watching TV every weekend. She wants to know how much TV each of the children watch relative to other children in the group. To get this information, she needs to convert the number of hours of TV watched into z-scores. She would also like to view a graphical representation of the distribution. These raw scores are presented to the right. Please use jamovi to complete your homework. You can load these data from the tv.csv file or type them in manually. 1) Use jamovi to generate z-scores for these data. Provide a screenshot of your data view showing these z-scores. (1 point)
2) Paste a histogram of both the raw data and the z-score transformed data. (1 point) How would you describe the shape of each distribution? (1 point) How does the shape of the two distributions compare to one another? (1 point) Both distributions are bell-shaped which indicates a normal distribution (they could also potentially be described as unimodal). The graphs are both in the same shape because the data is transformed into z-scores which display the same normal distribution as raw scores. 3) What is the z-score for a preschooler who watched 4 hours of TV in this sample? (1 point) z= X-M/s -> z= (4 - 4.83)/1.95 -> z= -0.426 4) How would you describe the TV watching habits of a preschooler who watched 4 hours of TV, given what you know about this sample? (1 point) Given the sample, I would describe this preschooler’s TV habits as average, as the z-score falls in the common area and less than one standard deviation from the mean and around the 30th percentile.
