WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHILDS ANXIETY ALEXANDRIA ROBINSON Stigmas When someone is diagnosed with anxiety, some people believe that it is not a real illness. Also, others believe that people with anxiety could snap out of it if they wanted to”, ( Beyond Blue , 2022). This mindset is harmful to those with anxiety because it is an invalidation of their feelings. These stigmas may leave those with anxiety feeling like they are weaker than others without anxiety. As a parent it is important to validate your child’s feelings and reassure them that what they are feeling is ok and they have a safe place to talk about their said feelings. Treatment Options There are many treatment options for those diagnosed with anxiety. After being diagnosed by a care physician, they may recommend psychotherapy or medications. A common medication given to treat anxiety is, “an anti- anxiety medication called buspirone,” ( Mayo Clinic Staff, 2018). Along with this there may be changes made to one’s everyday life, such as cutting out caffeine, recommending more physical activates, and increasing physical activities. These changes, while they are not a temporary treatment for anxiety, they have the ability to help lessen your child’s anxiety symptoms.
