Question 1 : (2 pts) Explain why some people like certain scents, such as cilantro and human sweat, while others don’t. People start to know their like or dislike in their olfaction before they were born, and the olfactory system is constant learning which scent is good or bad. The gene also influences people’s like and dislikes. Question 2 : (3 pts) What is the difference between taste and flavor? Taste is related to the five basic sense to your tongue, which is sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness, and umami. Flavor is a combination of taste and smell, this combination creates a specific “sound” in the mouth. Question 3 : (2 pt; 0.5 each) Match the following basic tastes to the type of transduction process occurs to produce it. Sweet Sour Salty Bitter Question 4 : (3 pts) Describe the process of Cognitive habituation and why it might occur. Habituation occurs when there is repeated stimulus which leads to decrease in the response nervous system. Cognitive habituation occurs when there is a long term exposure to s specific odor, a person might be able to detect that odor anymore, but when they leave the room and come back, they might realize the presence of that odor again.
