2 Research Article Exploration In Jackson’s article, the question, “Does TV Viewing During Toddlerhood Predict Social Difficulties and Conduct Problems,” (Jackson, 2018) is posed. The purpose of this study was to use data from several credible sources to investigate whether the content that toddlers watch causes behavioral issues in kindergarten students. The researchers are specifically accessing whether excessive viewing, unattended viewing, and adult content viewing are linked to social and conduct problems in toddlers (Jackson, 2018). Though there were limitations and further research is needed, Jackson (2018) concluded that toddlers who viewed adult content and experienced unattended viewing can be connected to their social skills, conduct, and behavioral issues when they begin school. This can possibly be avoided if parents take part in appropriate attentive viewing with their children. During this exercise I learned that the scientific study of human development can be complex. There are several hurdles to cross in order to make sure the study is ethical and there is informed consent. It involves extensive research on the topic, trial and error, data collection, and experiments. Although I was not aware of this particular experiment, I am aware of studies that use similar techniques for the study of cognitive and behavioral developments. Though I was intrigued, I was not surprised by the findings. As toddlers grow, they tend to absorb a lot of what is going on around them, so it is understandable that the media they watch will influence their behavior and social experiences. The results of this study will be useful to share with other parents. The skills I found most helpful was the highlight and annotating tools. I had not used it before, I think it will be useful in the future when I am taking notes, when I want to annotate definitions, purpose statements, a thesis, etc., because I can quickly find what I am looking for.
