The environment ( home, school) the child is in plays a big factor in their development such as; cognitive, alnguage, physical, emotional 2. Describe some ways to support a preschoolers independence and self-esteem. ·1 Some ways to support preschoolers independence and self esteem is such as feeding and dressing themselves. Introduce a spoon and fork and give children plenty of time to practice. ·2 Hygiene and toileting : Encourage children learning to use the toilet to climb on and off the toilet seat, pull clothing up and down, and wash their hands independently ·3 Helping with daily chores like table setting and picking up toys. Encourage children to help with clean-up early on. Give toddlers responsibility for placing napkins or utensils on the table. Encourage children to begin clearing their own plates when they are old enough to carry them without dropping them. 3. Describe an example of a link between two areas of development e.g. cognitive and language or physical and social. ·4 Here is a strong link between the physical, social-emotional and cognitive development areas, they are presented as separate areas but together they make up the skills, knowledge and expriences appropriate for babies and children as they grow, and learn and develop. Thoughout childhood physical development starts with learning to crawl, walk, and use the hands and feet efficiently as they do this the child acquires varies skills such as Motor skills which reuire co-ordination between brain and muscles. Gross motor skills use the large muscles of the arms, legs, hips and back. fine motor skills involve the co-ordination of the smaller muscles of the hands and fingers for pointing, drawing, doing up buttons, writing etc. Social- emotional development provides the foundation for how we feel about ourselves and how we exprience others. Cognitive development refers growth in a range of thinking and learning skills, including languge, attention, planning, problem-sloving and memory. Physical development influences both cognitive development and social-emotional development. Cognitivr development is influenced by physical development beacuse the brain and motor skills naturally affect the development of thought patterns. Social-emotional development is also impacted by physical development. Physical development and pay supports emotional development by providing a way to express and cope with feelings. Cognitive development affects social-emotional development because the ability to thinnk and reason will affect a persons ability to understand feelings and emotions. It will also impact a humans ability to understand themselves and others.
4. Give an example of a tooder's behaviour that is in Erik Eriksons psychosocial Theory 2nd stage of Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt and explain how you could support a postive outcome. ·5 Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt Autonomy versus shame and doubt is the second stage of Eric Erikson's stages pf pschosocial development. This stage occurs between the ages of 18 months to appropximately 3 years. The child is developing physically and becoming more more mobile, and discovering that he or she she has many skills and abilities, such as putting on clothes and shoes, playing with toys, etc. Such skills illustrate the child's growing sense of independence and autonomy. For example, during this stage children begin to asssert their independence, by waling away from their mother, picking which toy to play with, and making choices about what they like to wear, to eat, etc. Erikson states it is critical that parents allow their children to explore the limits of their ablilities within an encouraging environement which is tolerant of failure. For example rather than put on a childs clothes a supportive paarent should have the patience to allow the child to try until they succeed or ask for assistance. So, the parents need to encourage the child to become more independent while at the same time proctecting the child so that constant failure is avoided. A delicate balance is required from the parent. They must try not to do everything for the child, but if the child fails at a particalar task they must not criticize the child or for failures and accidents (particularly when tiolet training.. The aim has to be "self control without a loss of self-esteem' ( Gross, 1992). Success in this stage will lead to the virtue of will. If children in this stage are encouraged and supported in their increased indepence, they become more confident and secure in their own ability to survive in the world. If children cricized, overly controlled, or not given the opportunity to assert themselves, they begin to feel inadequate in their ability to survive, and may then become overly dependedt upon others, lack self-esteem, and feel a sense of shame or doubt in their in their abilities. 5. How do you value children's use and development of their home language? ·6 children sharing games from other cultures with key words in those languages ·7 learning greetings from children's languages. 6. Explain that a literacy rich environement is and how you could provide opportunities for children access to familiar and unfamiliar written words in various languages? We often think that a "language rich environment" means buying specialist resources for your setting, but practitioners who have a good understanding of child development and use effective strategies to promote every childs communication skills are the best resource and use effective strategies to promote every childs comminication skills are the best resource any setting could hope for. The classroom has labels with words and pictures everywhere so that students constantly connect written languege with the things they represent. Teachers display these
labels based on student needs and interest to provide children with disabilities support in the classroom (Dorrell, 2002). Students are calendars, schedules, signs and directions to see how words can be used everyday. Teachers and students reconstruct the classroom to represent a book or a theme that the class has studied with witten materials so that students can live in the lesson. All materials are adopted to meet the needs of children with disabilities. For examples Braille and texured materials may be used in labels, sign, and other displays for children with visual impairments. 7. How would you assist a child to see mistakes as an opportunity to learn and grow? ·8 Help our children understand that everyone makes mistakes and we dont expect them to be perfect ·9 React to a mistake with a determination to help child learn from it ·10 praise the children when they admit to a mistake ·11 Encourage children to say sorry ·12 help them realise the benefits of learning when we get something wrong. 8. Tim is an 8 month old who has just begun to crawl and is fascinated with everything in his environment. He is often found stitting in low cupboards banging objects together. 2. What provisions/ materials would be appropriate for Tim scaffold learning and development? Toys like hard cover books, soft toys, animals, dolls 3. What are some physical milestones this infant is demonstrating? fine motor and gross motor skills 4. which of Parten's stages of play is Tim displaying? 5. uncccupied play 9.
