Week 1 Express your thoughts on if most Americans adequately know and understand the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the various Amendments? In a separate paragraph, support your belief/non-belief that the US should become involved in Covert Operations? Hello Class, This week we learned about the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Amendments to the Bill of Rights. The U.S. Constitution was created September 17, 1787 and was established to form the three types of governments and the rights and freedom among citizens of the United States. The preamble of the US Constitution, in simple terms, explains that laws will be created to ensure a more perfect country in support of its citizens. The seven Articles breaks down the three types of government; Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branch. It goes in depth with the criteria, elections, and their obligational duties. There are 27 Amendments to the Bill of Rights which give American citizens liberties such as the Right to Vote, to Bear Arms, Freedom of Speech, and much more ( The United States Constitution , n.d.). In my personal opinion, I do not believe most Americans know and understand the U.S. constitution along with the Amendments to the Bill of Rights. Going through high school, I believe I went through an American History class which briefly gave an overview of the U.S. Constitution. We live our day to day lives not thinking about the different freedoms we, as American citizens, have because it is something we are accustomed to. As I got older, and the more classes I took, it was something I had to research on my own to get a better understanding of it. I do not believe the U.S. should be involved in Covert Operations. Covert Action does monitor secret intrusions around the world, but it has become very controversial. It has been said that Covert Action results in the loss of human life along with interfering with domestic activities. They violate domestic laws where they are operating and undermine the United States obligation to international laws (Best, 1996). There just seems to be too many negatives surrounding Covert Operations which is why I believe the U.S. should not be involved in such operations.
