Description – Describe two of the most significant political and economic aspects of 18 th century European society before and after classical liberalism developed. / 16 marks 2 Examples of an Economic Aspect of 18 th Century European Society Before the Development of Classical Liberalism AND 2 Examples of an Economic Aspect of society after the development of Classical Liberalism 2 Examples of Political Aspects of 18 th Century European Society Before the Development of Classical Liberalism AND 2 Examples of a Political Aspect of society after the development of Classical Liberalism Before: 1. Farms in Europe never were able to truly sell their crops and goods to earn a profit but were to surrender a majority of it to the king or ruler of the land in- exchange for protection and other deeds. 2. The taxes and income coming from farmers were going towards the lords and their selfish needs. This resulted in a majority of them going into debt like After: 1. After classical liberalism farmers gained more independence to control their land and goods. They were able to sell however they were still taxed appropriately by the state and other legislatures instead of the kings and feudal lords. 2. The taxes collected by the states and legislatures were put back into the people. It would be put into Before: 1. The hierarchy and class level was rigged, meaning the lower classes had little to no say in political actions and debates and other things. 2. In France whenever they held any national assemblies the 1st and 2nd estate always ruled in favor since its majority rules. They would mistreat and put all their burdens on the third estate such as increasing taxes, etc. After: 1. The outcome of the French revolution was that they developed and adapted representative democracy instead of the hereditary ruling. The rise and birth of Napoleon was also an aftermath. 2. The 3rd estate got sick of this and rebelled by starting their own national assembly if they didn't make things fair and even (they didn't).
