W6 Assignment: President Eyring Readings
Title and date:
Our Constant Companion, October 2023
Key doctrines and principles:
The spirit is one of the greatest gifts that our heavenly father has given us in this life. It is the constant guidance that he gives so we may better walk the paths that are of a disciple of Christ. We need to be living a life in line with the teachings of the Gospel so we can more fully have the spirit with us.
Favorite quote:
“The key for me and for you is to want what the Savior wants. Our motives need to be driven by the pure love of Christ.”
Why is matters to me: The spirit time and time again has proven to be my greatest ally that I have with me. No matter the situation whether I am following the path or have veered off, the wise words of the lord always come to me to help push me in the right direction. Something else that has always been an important piece of doctrine is that we still have to choose to follow the guidance of the spirit. As we do so we are freely open to the blessings of the Lord as we choose him over the alternatives. Especially in the world that we live in today we need to consciously choose the Savior and what he wants for us and those around us and help others to find that within themselves. As I do all I can to find the pure love of Christ in my life, I can help those around me to find and experience that same feeling. Leading others to want to follow him and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost more fully in their life as well as mine.

Finding Personal Peace, April 2023
Key doctrines and principles:
Finding true and everlasting peace is found only in the Savior Jesus Christ. We receive blessings after we put in the faith necessary to receive them. As we keep our covenants and the commandments of the Lord, we are able to feel the love of the Lord in our lives. Also, that the Savior loved us enough to give up his life and that through him can achieve everlasting peace.
Favorite quote:
“There is an inborn sense of justice and truth in every child of God as he or she comes into mortality.”
Why is matters to me:
I love this talk because it talks about the promised blessings Heavenly Father has for each of his children and outlines it simply. Something that stood out to me was when President Eyring mentioned that “For those who are covenant members of the Lords’s Church, obedience is what we have already promised to do” It is to be expected out of us that we are obedient. In many cases just being obedient only is the bare minimum effort that we should strive for. Heavenly Father wants us to become more like him and learn how to do that in this life as we live and follow the Gospel. Being simply
obedient does not help us become like him, but more like a dog who follows orders. Striving to follow the Savior and strengthen your own testimony and repenting daily is a sign of someone who is striving for the celestial kingdom. Also, something important to remember is that as we strive to live celestial lives we are never alone. We have the Holy Ghost to be with us always as well as the love of our Savior and Heavenly Father. With these at my back I feel confident to push forward.

Legacy of Encouragement, October 2022
Key doctrines and principles:
This is a powerful message that emphasizes the importance of leaving a legacy of encouragement for future generations. Here are two key doctrines and principles from the talk:
The Power of Encouragement: Elder Eyring highlights the power of encouragement and how it can have a lasting impact on the lives of others. He reminds us that we all have the ability to lift and inspire those around us, and that even small acts of kindness and encouragement can make a big difference in someone's life. I know for me Encouragement is a big thing that can help me to move forward in something. The Importance of Family: Another key principle that Elder Eyring discusses is the importance of family and the role that it plays in leaving a legacy of encouragement. He reminds us that our families are the most important people in our lives and that we have a responsibility to encourage and support them in all that they do. Favorite quote:
" Looking back, I now see how that gift of charity—the pure love of Christ—
strengthened, guided, sustained, and changed my mother in the struggle on her way home."
Why it matters to me:
The legacy of encouragement we leave behind is not just for our children and grandchildren, but for all those we come in contact with. Sometimes we may not recognize it at the moment or maybe our family won't recognize it at the time. But looking back you can see how God blessed your life or their life. In summary, Elder Eyring's talk "Legacy of Encouragement" provides valuable guidance on how to leave a positive impact on the world by encouraging and supporting those around us. By recognizing the power of encouragement and the importance of family, we can all work to leave a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire future generations.

A Prayer of Faith, April 2020 Key doctrines and principles:
In this article, President Eyring emphasized and demonstrated the importance of a prayer of faith; how our prayers could be answered in response to our faith. He goes further to set some examples from the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith and how his sincere prayers were answered as a result of his faith and belief. Interestingly enough, we could learn from the life and example of the Prophet Joseph; that because of his faithful and sincere prayer, he was able to see the Son of God, and even God Himself, appear to him in the sacred grove. As a result of his continuous faith and prayers, his requests to know the true Church of Christ to join was revealed to him and, through him,
the Church which was established anciently, and after centuries of being lost, was through him, restored to the earth again never to be lost again until the son of Levi offers up a sacrifice in righteousness. Favorite quote:
"Throughout his prophetic ministry, Joseph Smith used prayers of faith to obtain continuous revelation. As we face today’s challenges and those yet to come, we too will need to practice the same pattern.”
Why it matters to me:
The dispensation in which we are today requires more of a spiritual mentality and
life as it would in the past dispensations. We need to be sure to do all we can in this life to have the constant guide of the spirit with us through prayer. President Brigham Young said, “I do not know any other way for the Latter-day Saints than for every breath to be virtually a prayer for God to guide and direct his people.” I do believe that even as we follow the teachings and counsels of the living Prophet, we are able to walk in the paths our heavenly father wants us to walk and the adversary with temptation
will have no power over us. With the unbroken chain established, we never have to wonder where to look for truth coming from our Father in Heaven.
