Rrapollari 1 Stela Rrapollari Professor Monroe PHI 1600 15 October 2022 Business Administration Summary In addition to experiencing sexual assault at the hands of a male guardian, Deng al had suicidal thoughts. She only cares for others, for their opinion, and never puts herself first (Groves 1). She hid her story for years under her employment at the plant, her side job of catering sambuca, and caring for her three boys. Deng made a busy schedule trying to care for others so in this case, she will not have time to herself so she can think of the past. Deng was able to live the life she had imagined when she arrived in the United States as a teenager because of the demanding job. She put money aside for family holidays, and a down payment on a house, and even sponsored her parents' immigration to the United States. Deng was ill with the COVID-19 virus and terrified that her boys would discover her body and only have the stories that others had told them about her (Groves 1). Deng’s life was traumatized by forces beyond their control and the girl's face is depicted with a night sky overlay on it to represent how she felt when the book was published (Groves 1). Application I think Deng is in Gilligan’s second stage because she had the responsibility to help others like her family and her sons without caring for herself . She puts others first and forgets herself. Deng also does what is best for her family and sons, not what really makes her happy. The sacrifices of a hard work from her such as setting up money for family trips, a down payment on a house, and sponsored her parents’ immigration to America clearly show Gillani’s level 2 caring. There are many people who ask for care, especially our family, but is it more
Rrapollari 3 important to put ourselves first? Deng was always thinking if she was doing enough for others and if she should be more while limiting her desires and her need for care. It takes a lot of self- denial and self-sacrifice to be a lovely person who cares for others. It might also be a trap that keeps us stuck in the past or entangled in a pattern of behaviors that don't serve us anymore. Regardless of how it appears, being in charge of someone else's life and happiness may be a difficult duty that can devour us in several ways. These statements from this article regrade how Deng cares only for others. Word Count: 399
