1 Peer Review and Reflection on Personal Identity Presentation Elias Ruiz College of Theology: Grand Canyon University Min—430: Ministerial Communication Dr. David Yauk October 1, 2023 Personal Reflection: Areas of Growth: Having been a Minister for over 50 years, I have learned that there is always room for improvement. Through my classes at GCU, I have learned new techniques, new ways to communicate, and learned to seek help when needed. My goal has always been to share the Gospel and make disciples; “Go into all the world and make disciples...!” (Mathew 28:19-20). I might not make it around the world, but I have a huge, diverse community of people from all nations and backgrounds who need to hear the Gospel and grow in their faith in Jesus Christ. Because of the diversity of people at my church, I must learn to adjust my teaching and preaching to the different ethnicities and languages. Not all are the same, so I must adjust, re- learn, and speak so no one is offended or that I might not get understood. So, growing, learning, and seeking advice is necessary in my ministry. I like 1 Peter 4:10-11, “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God...so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ…” Areas of Strengths : According to the feedback from my classmates on my GoReact Video, my presentation was strong and well explained. One of my classmates suggested I focus and pause
2 on voice inflection. I will focus more on the pitch and tone of my voice, raising it occasionally and then lowering it. I think this was a positive and significant criticism. My teaching and preaching skills can always use some improvement. The Lord is my loving Father and Redeemer and I love Him with all my heart, and studying the Word, Praying and Fasting is my daily goal and purpose. I love to read, study, and find better ways of improving my skills as a Minister. At GCU I am pursuing my 2 nd bachelor’s in theology because my first was at a Spanish University, and I want to be able to Minister in both languages. Through the years, I have learned new techniques, new teaching tools, better communication skills, and better ways to understand and teach the Word. There are many ways to improve my ministry today. I must teach with clarity and relevance and develop gospel sensitivity to others. There was a woman in Mark 5, surrounded by a large crowd, who touched His garment, yet still, he felt the distinct touch of the desperate woman. I pray that God helps me to never walk past hurting people. I must learn to bet alone with God more often. Even when the crowds wanted to hear Him and the sick wanted His healing, Jesus prioritized time with the Father (Luke 5:15-16). I need to push away from people long enough to be renewed, and then get back to my task and my ministry will be stronger. Proverbs 15:31-33 If you listen to constructive criticism, you will be at home among the wise. Rejecting discipline would only harm me, but if I listen to correction, I will grow in understanding. Fear of the LORD teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor.
