1 Peer Review and Reflection on Sermon Delivery Part II: Personal Reflection Elias Ruiz College of Theology: Grand Canyon University Min—430: Ministerial Communication Dr. David Yauk October 22, 2023
2 Part II: Personal Reflection I reviewed my classmates feedback on October 19, and had two feedbacks. My classmates said that my message was well explained and had a good flow. Also, they added that the mechanics were great Nathan Batchelor said; “ The flow of your sermon was very easy to understand and it also grabbed my heart and encouraged me to live out what you called us to The manner in how you delivered the message, the mechanics, and presentation were great. Presented correctly.” There were no comments that they recommend for improvement, but I can think of a few. Another classmate, Danny Griffin, said; I am going to record your sermon and keep it. It is powerful. I am motivated to live for Jesus.” As for areas of growth, I think I need to maintain a better flow of my material based on the scriptures I selected. Meaning My scriptures should flow better with the message, so that the end of my last thought should be comparable to the scripture I read. On this video I noticed that I should have maintained better ‘eye contact’ with the camera, which would compare to my audience. That would mean I need to read and re-read my manuscript so I can remember more and read less. According to Jerry Vines & Jim Shaddix, in ‘Power in the Pulpit”, “Look the audience in the eye, and your delivery will be much more effective.” They also added that looking at your audience will enable you to pick up the response of your congregation. (p. 363). I want to be a better preacher, and one that wins souls for Christ through proper preaching. Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones says that the whole personality of the preacher must be involved. So, another area of growth for me is, don’t try and be somebody else, be myself, and be confident. No one likes imposters, especially in the pulpit.
