RHONDA WRIGHT COUC 501 experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Whereas multicultural counseling competency is required across all counseling specialties, counselors gain knowledge, personal awareness, sensitivity, dispositions, and skills pertinent to being a culturally competent counselor in working with a diverse client population. (Daniel) As a Christian professional counselor, I am responsible for using my power in a way that does not harm my client. Instead, as theologian Henri Nouwen (1993) has noted, I must choose to abandon power for love, again and again. A journal article written by Woien (2008) reads the principle of nonmaleficence we should not inflict evil or harm on individuals. Whether through acts of commission or omission. The author of this article writes about an infant who was born with Tay Sachs disease. The dilemma was to allow this child to live with the consequences of this disease or to euthanize her. This case was brought before the courts where they determined that to allow this child to live would do more harm than to end her life. As I was reading this article, I concluded that this principle seems to be based on subjective matter rather than objective. Nowhere in the Bible did Jesus take away someone’s suffering by ending their lives. We do not know what happens after we die, all we can do is assume. As for myself, this principle is in harmony with my personal and spiritual standards. I say this because showing nonmaleficence means showing mercy towards another individual. The Bible in Ephesians 4:32 talks about being kind, compassionate, and forgiving one another just as the Lord Jesus Christ has forgiven me. Daniel (2020) speaks of when Adam and Eve were in the garden and were hiding from the Lord when they heard Him calling for them. They were

The one ethical principle or standard from the ACA Code of Ethics that I may struggle with would be Beneficence which reads from Daniel that I am always promoting the good of my client and the good of society the ACA is the one core principle that me beyond just the client sitting in front of me. It requires me to see my client in the context of their world and moves me to change and advocacy on behalf of my client. What I need as Daniel writes that I need to see my client as a larger system to better understand my client. This would require me to put the love that the Lord has placed in me for all my clients into action. Matthew 25:31-46 speaks of when the King of Glory comes and separates the Sheep from the Goats. I am a servant of the Highest God who has called me to serve as His hands and feet extended, to echo His words of salvation, redemption, reconciliation, and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
