1 Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 Fact Sheet Author Name (First, Middle Initial, Last) College of Health Professions, Western Governors University Instructor Name Date
2 Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2018 final rule (MACRA) MACRA is a bipartisan law that was enacted in 2015 and it created a quality payment program that repealed the PDF formula and ensured that Medicare payment for clinicians was based on value (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2018). Additionally, it sets a foundation for providers to choose patient centered medical homes as well as accountable care organizations. In 2018, Changes in MACRA were meant to reauthorize the children’s health insurance program. In 2018, Changes in MACRA also sought to have an advanced alternative payment models (APMs) and a Merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS) MACRA’s Impact on system implementation The implementation of this policy will call for development of procedures and systems that would help with reporting, tracking and analyzing performance (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2018). Technologies such as electronic health records would be some of the key health informatics advancement that would help in tracking and reporting the available performance data hence a nurse informatics specialist would be key in ensuring that the technologies comply with MACRA. MACRA’s Impact on Workflow, clinical care and Patient-Provide interactions MACRA will highly affect the care offered to patients and their interactions with their healthcare providers.
3 Health providers will be supposed to use electronic health records to generate quality data that would help them get good reimbursements for the services that they offer (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2018). Additionally, MACRA incentivizes the providers to choose payment models that would reduce costs while leveraging on quality of care. All this activities will necessitate a shift in workflow, improve patient-provider communication and strengthen their collaboration. Organizational Policies and Procedures Our healthcare organization will be supposed to implement procedures and policies that are in line with MACRA law. I t will put place a viable electronic health record system, come up with performance metrics and reporting systems and have some improvement initiatives such as accountable care organizations and patient-centered medical homes (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022). Staff will also receive the necessary education and trainings on the relevant laws and regulations. Overly, all the policies and procedures will be effected with the help of a health informatics nurse.
