2 Knowledge Assignment: Communication and Conflict Management Nurses have stated that the electronic medical record (EMR) has enabled them to efficiently monitor the patient's health development and complete tasks faster (Likourezos et al., 2004). Nurses depend on EMR while working. It can mitigate medication management mistakes, improve the clarity of physicians' systems, lower time used to document records, and enhance clinical decisions. Miller and his colleagues, in their research, found that some factors impact EHR knowledge among nurses. Some of those mentioned by the incoming nurses and nurse supervisors were past clinical experience, hospital familiarization, age, and orientation specific to the various departments (Miller et al., 2014). In my previous clinical practices, I reviewed my patients' charts using the Epic system. We did not have more experience using the system, and we never went for any orientation. I had to spend a lot of time trying to understand where I could obtain the information needed. I encountered many issues familiarizing myself with the system and still did not understand many things about it. In the future, in case I get employed in a hospital that uses a model that I do not understand and am not given any training, my patient care would be compromised, thus resulting in medical errors. Even though we have not begun working at the Aurora Las Encinas clinical facility, we have attended orientation, which was beneficial. As a new grad approach to apply EMR, I would attend training sessions if possible, and if not, I will conduct research to acquire some knowledge on their system. I will ensure to maintain constant interactions with the informatic technologist staff in case I have an issue. The facility needs to contemplate assigning new grads fewer patients to balance between charting sessions and skills performed.
