Hi Katie, This discussion post is well-written but lacks additional citations to back the assertions and fails to incorporate a Christian worldview. Also another recommendation is to avoid using personal pronouns in academic writing. In addition, some of the critical areas of discussion need more expansion. The post argues that voluntary HIV testing is more appropriate because it ensures confidentiality by not confusing the difference between opt-out and opt-in. Hutchinson and colleagues (2021) conducted a study aimed at assessing the public health impact of eliminating longstanding routine HIV screening programs and replacing them with targeted testing. The results indicated that routine screening identified 74 more new HIV infections over one year than targeted testing, which resulted in an estimated ten fewer HIV transmissions (Hutchinson et al., 2021). Overall, routine HIV screening has a more significant impact, and prioritizing funding for such checks may be necessary for HIV prevention goals. Not only does this post argue that HIV testing should be voluntary in prisons, but it also argues that prisons should not segregate HIV-positive inmates. A 2010 American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) report on the segregation of HIV-positive inmates describes mandatory HIV tests upon arrival and immediate segregation upon diagnosis (Bohrer, 2021). HIV- positive incarcerated people received weeks or months of solitary confinement before being moved to an HIV-positive unit (Bohrer, 2021). Additionally, these individuals could not obtain any form of employment within the prison (Bohrer, 2021). Isolating HIV-positive prisoners labels them in the eyes of other inmates and correctional staff and may put them at greater risk of assault and discrimination. Decisions based on a Christian worldview begin with the will of God. Proverbs 3:5 discusses how human understanding is always subject to error ( English Standard Version Bible, 2001). What appears to be the right choice may be the wrong choice. When Christians make decisions based on what God reveals, they put themselves in a position to receive three things. First, it becomes possible to receive intimate fellowship with him. The second thing is spiritual maturity. Finally, making decisions based on God’s revelation allows Christians to enjoy the greatest fulfillment in life. References: Bohrer, A. J. (2021).
