Time motion analysis: Impact of scribes
on provider time management.
The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 55(1), 135–140.
This study categorizes providers activities and evaluate how they are distributing their
time with and without the use of scribes
on a 24 8-h control shifts. Some research questions
would consist of, “How does the presence of scribes influences the time ED providers spend on
documentation time and quality time with the patient in the emergency room?” “Are there
differences in the quality of documentation time or patient care when scribes are present?” This
study’s hypothesis is to see if the presences of scribes will reduce the time spent by ED providers
on total documentation time on both 24 8-h shifts with and without scribes and properly utilizing
their time effectively.
The study design for this research is
observational
because the providers and scribes are
being observed by research assistants. The observational studies only observed subjects and do
not assign them to the control and/or treatment groups.
