During this week’s lesson one of the concepts was the following. Non-steroidal anti- inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) and acetaminophen are the main components of the class of medications known as cyclooxygenase inhibitors. These medications function by preventing the enzyme cyclooxygenase from producing prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing fever, discomfort, and inflammation. Here is a list of various medications and their side effects: NSAIDs: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aspirin, Diclofenac, Celecoxib, etc. are few examples. Some potential Adverse Effects, Digestive Issues: NSAIDs might result in stomach perforations, bleeding, and ulcers. Additionally, they could cause heartburn, stomach pain, and indigestion. Cardiovascular effects include an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure with long-term use of NSAIDs, particularly at high doses. Kidney Effects: NSAIDs can harm the kidneys, especially in people who already have kidney issues or who are dehydrated. Allergic responses: Some people may have allergic responses that cause swelling, itching, or skin rashes. Additional side effects: NSAIDs can also cause fluid retention, ringing in the ears, headaches, and dizziness. Acetaminophen: Negative Consequences: Liver Damage: Acetaminophen at high dosages or for an extended period of time can harm the liver, especially when taken with alcohol or in people who already have liver disease. Allergic responses: Some people may have allergic responses that cause swelling, itching, or skin rashes. Additional adverse effects: If acetaminophen is taken in excess, it can also result in headache, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
