Name ___Robert Anguiano_____
Type in your name above, bold or write short answer (brief bullet points are acceptable) in the spaces provided below. When finished, save as a PDF (.pdf) and upload to Moodle in the 10/31 to 11/4 section. 10 points total.
1)
(3 points) Patrick (fictional character) has the experience below. Please state if Patrick is an engineer or not based on how we defined engineering in class and (briefly) why.
a.
Patrick was talking with his neighbor he said that his gutter kept overflowing. Patrick
went over and took a look at the gutter. A 1-foot section of the neighbor’s gutter was
sagging and not well connected to the eve of the house. Patrick looked-up the gutter
specifications, diagram, and the installation guide. He saw the maximum weight the
gutter can hold is 1 lb per linear foot, and that screws should be attaching the gutter to the
eve every 3 to 6 inches. When he observed the screws, he noticed there were some
missing and only screws every 1 foot. When he got up to look inside the gutter he saw
several chipped bricks had broken from the chimney and fallen into the gutter. After
taking the bricks to his kitchen scale he found there was about 2.5 lbs of bricks. He
removed the bricks, straightened the gutter and measured two points 3 inches apart and
added the screws to attach the gutter to the eve. Patrick’s neighbor was thankful for his
time and effort. Patrick is an engineer, he is repairing the gutter, this is a part of the process by trying different
things to solve the problem, he is innovating a solution
for the problem by using information that he gathers
from observing the design aspects of the gutter.
2)

1) Dimension Line C
2) Extension Line A
3) Dimension B
4) Diameter symbol D

You are an engineer working on a project and your prototype has failed prematurely. You question whether or not a key component of the prototype was manufactured with the correct material. There are two way to check for the material properties. The first way is to have a material certification done to confirm the exact material composition. This will take some time. The second method to confirm the material properties is to make an ASTM test sample and test for the material properties. This tensile test was completed on a test sample with an initial diameter of .501” and an initial length of 2”. The Load-Deflection data for this tensile test is below. Use this data to answer the first set of questions on the Final Exam in eLearning. A. Determine the Ultimate Tensile Strength B. Determine the 0.2% Offset Yield Strength C. Determine the value of the Proportional Limit D. Determine the Modulus of Elasticity E. Determine the Strain at Yield F. Calculate %…

Important instruction: These questions use the last three-digit value (L3D) of individual student matrix numbers. For example, if the matrix number is CD180264 then the L3D value is 264 (since the last three digits is 264). Some data require multiplication of the L3D value, for example, 10(L3D) means 10 x L3D
