Sustainable Leadership Power Reanna Siordia LEA 5130 Team Building and Group Dynamics Dr. Ted Sun 12/30/23
Sustainable Leadership Power As a member of Team One, which happens to be the marketing team, I will serve as the backbone for this paper. I possess a deep understanding of our team's strengths, including our exceptional effectiveness, and how our daily communication plays a key role in achieving our objectives. Who gets to define the leaders in the group? The answer would be their traits and characteristics and their peers. You can point a leader out in a crowd because they have confidence, awareness, decisiveness, the ability to exude empathy and compassion, show accountability and honesty, and are very focused and optimistic. `Leaders inspire and empower others, offering guidance and taking responsibility when necessary.(Somech, 2009). How do you explain the usage of power in terms of task completion and resource allocation? It is crucial to recognize the various forms of Leadership to gain a comprehensive understanding of power dynamics. For example, informational power comes into play when one shares knowledge with others. Traditional power, also known as legitimate power, is utilized by managers to maintain order. Expert power is attributed to individuals with a greater understanding of a specific subject or field, but it is essential to acknowledge that one's level of accuracy may vary. Active listening and considering differing perspectives and education sources are essential skills to develop. "Who does not like the power of rewards? It is a simple way to show your team or employees that you value them and their contributions. However, we must not forget that a reward system cannot exist without a protocol to handle those who fail to
comply with company rules. Additionally, we all need the power of connections from time to time. These people know someone you need to be connected with, and they make that meeting happen." One of the most uplifting forms of power is when a leader can inspire those around them. This is the power of inspiration. Additionally, there is moral power, which involves leading one's team with ethical beliefs and actions that demonstrate strong leadership skills (Scouts, Y. 2014). How do people in an authoritative position use their power? Is it ethical? What is the impact of authoritative power on team members? Authoritative power is defined as the exercise of power perceived as legitimate and proven effective through the consent of those subjected. It is ethical as this power can manifest in various forms, such as traditional authority passed down through hereditary means, charismatic authority through personal influence and inspiration, and rational-legal authority held by certain groups in positions of power over subordinate groups(Thompson, C.H., 2015) How does the team define power, and what is easily accepted by the team? Individuals in positions of authority utilize their power to assess their company's needs and other related factors and can be easily accepted by the team. As a leader, it is our responsibility to guide others in a manner that reflects the company's values, morale, mission, and vision, which is a productive use of our power. Leaders are recognized as influencers and are driven by specific goals or objectives they aim to achieve. When power is wielded effectively, the possibilities are limitless. People will follow a great leader to the ends of the earth if their Leadership is characterized by fairness, honesty, and other essential qualities and skills. In terms

of workplace dynamics, the impact of power on a team is reflected in its quality, ability, capacity, potential, faculty, and property, all of which are readily embraced by team members. What influential powers do you possess within your team? As a leader, I possess a charismatic energy and attitude that allows me to influence those around me positively. However, I must not be afraid to showcase my talents to reach my full potential. True leaders are risk-takers who are also creative and hands-on but often need to be recognized for their contributions. I now understand that I need to take a more proactive approach to my journey to succeed. While I believe in utilizing coercive power when necessary, I also strive to create a positive and rewarding environment where employees are happy to come to work. Although a true leader should be able to show all five powers when needed, I have my thoughts on how to run my company effectively (Penn et al.). To what extent do you exert your power? In order to achieve specific objectives, I may utilize certain powers, such as coercive power, to encourage my family to maintain their living spaces and make sure everything is cleaned up. Similarly, in a professional setting, these powers can be used to ensure employees adhere to company policies, such as implementing corrective action policies. Expert power is precious to me, especially about my particular department. Despite potential imitators, I am the creator and possess a wealth of expertise in my field. I am well-versed in what works and what does not. Reward recognition is my preferred power, as I enjoy acknowledging people's accomplishments and offering promotions, gifts, and other means of showing appreciation. It is crucial to recognize that humans are emotional beings and crave validation, feeling valued, respected, and
recognized for their contributions. Leaders can thrive in today's ever-changing world by skillfully employing all five powers at the appropriate time and place.
