Collapsible workspace is a company that has a mission to provide workspaces for worldwide need. Every workspace will have problems, even them. In my reading it is stated that the installer, subcontracted shippers, and truckers need to work as a team. A team is a group of people who all have something to bring to the table and are all working together to get the same end goal. The subcontracted shippers and truckers are not working as a team. All of them are needed to achieve the end goal of giving the client a collapsible workspace. Some effective ways that could help is having open communication. Letting the truckers and shippers know exactly what the vision is and how they are expected to do it, allowing them to have their input on what is expected and consider their opinions on how to better the workflow. Not every team works the same way. Asking the employees what they need in a supervisor to make work more bearable. Another way could be to get to know the truckers and shippers on a professional level and personal level. A person’s personality can say a lot about their work and ambitions. Some people are shy, and some are very outgoing, and those two types of people work very differently. Ask how they think they could work better as a team and give them reasonable resources to do so. Instilling diversity to get everyone’s point of view and that way everyone can brainstorm a way to make things work. Participation as a supervisor will show that you genuinely care and want the same end goal as the field workers. It shows that you don’t look at your employees as beneath you but as an equal. See how they run things day-to-day and see how if you were in the field how things would work more efficiently.
Be flexible and understanding. Working as subcontractors can be difficult because they have many different supervisors at a time. They may not feel like they are working with you, but for you. It is important to show them that you understand that things happen but also show them that the end goal is what needs to be a priority. 4 great ways to show that you are an excellent leader: Being relatable: Listen to the employees and be curious about them. Talk with them and put them at ease with their problems. Persuading them: Show interest in your employees, always ask questions, understand the pros and cons, know your vision. Empowering them: Don’t judge your employees, communicate openly, make them feel valued, trust them, believe in them. Scouting them: get to know your employees, ask questions, keep learning. In the scenario the employees are at the storming stage. The storming stage is when the team has a lot of conflict and hostilities. People are micromanaging and fighting for power. Some teams break at this stage. The important ways to work together to get out of the storming phase is to focus on getting to know each other and trusting each other. During that time, they can work on better collaborations and see how they can work better as a team. After this stage they will then move into the norming stage which is when the team members are now agreeing on how to work better together, and they have created stronger and closer bonds with each other. This paves the way for the last stage, which is the performing stage.

During this stage they use their collaborations to perform the job and meet the end goal, which in this case is to deliver and install the collapsible workspaces. Cohesiveness can help improve the team’s quality and quantity of work. When a team has cohesiveness, the members are proud to take part in it, look forward to working with each other and piggyback off each other’s ideas. A strong leader can encourage cohesiveness by recruiting people who are similar but different in the best way for the team, keeping teams as small as possible, being an active member of the team and rewarding them for good performance. The truckers, shippers and installers have potential to become a cohesive team. The supervisors could become an active leader by helping them in the field where they think it is needed, encouraging the team to socialize by inviting them all to team building activities, holding town hall meetings to see what their needs are. Once the team has succeeded rewarding them and publicizing their efforts. Every successful team needs a strong and successful leader. The workplace can help ensure this by providing leadership training, giving performance reviews and by asking the team members to review their leaders on a survey. The management can drop by on site to see how the leadership is doing as well. Overall, most employees have no issues with their actual job, it is the people that they work for and with. By instilling strong leadership and team building you can set your employees up for a happy and healthy career.
