Discussions: Since the 1960's we have seen a steady stream of more women entering the workplace. The 2000's brought more women to senior leadership positions. This shift in the workforce has created challenges and opportunities for all. Increased sexual harassment cases, balancing life and family, and equal wages and job opportunities are just a few of the challenges. Organizations, and federal and state governments, are finding ways to address these issues. Based on your readings this week (see Content - Week 8 - Reading and Resources), what should organizations do to ensure that the disparity between compensation and job opportunities among men and women in the workplace is mitigated and ultimately eliminated? Be creative in your answer! Hello Professor and Classmates, Disparity between compensation and job opportunities amongst men and women in the workplace has and always will be an issue until workplaces take the right stand against it. To mitigate this disparity, workplaces should ensure that there is equal pay for all individuals, no matter what. Maybe, eliminating such things as asking what one’s salary should be or letting women apply for jobs that are typically performed by men or vice versa. There should also be an equal balance of women and men in the workplace as well as in executive and leadership positions, so hiring more women would fix that. Workplaces should be hiring individuals based on qualifications and not gender, etc. They should also be promoting more women, who are qualified, within the workplace instead of only promoting men. Women should feel like they are equal to their counterparts in the workplace instead of having the feeling of being treated unfairly.
