Hello Phillip, I suggest not pursuing the leadership behavior of “inspiring and motivating others to embrace the vision” as it was made evident that the vision is not clear for not only the employees but the leader themselves. Before we inspire and motivate employees with a vision, we must clearly establish the vision first and model that within the actions and behaviors of the leaders. I recommend that you add working conditions to your focus area needing improvement as the results from this portray the lack in ethics and support coming from leadership in the company. Improving areas under training and development and company and strategy will sure improve morale and job performance as you have identified, though having an ethical leader that you can trust to support you and the organizations goals will have a more significant impact on morale and job performance. One way to identify if leaders inhabit the organizations values themselves is to assess the leadership styles of each leader within the company to determine if they fit within the organizations ideals for a leader. I wanted to mention I agree with your recommendation to enhance the focus area of company and strategy by conducting weekly meetings as this will give leaders the ability to portray the visions and values of the company and satisfy the needs of employees through collaboration and productive communication. Hi Willie, I agree with all that you have said regarding the behaviors/skills needing improvement and suggest stretching further on the development of emotional intelligence of its leaders. This can be done through persistent communication between leaders and constituents and amongst employees. This does not seclude communication to trainings or meetings, this can be one on one personal discussion between the leader and constituents on a daily basis with various members of the organization. Leaders may also introduce a collaborative meeting which opens discussion for all employees within the organization to address concerns and bounce ideas off one
another. One leadership skill I recommend adding is “doing what you say and saying what you do”. I know that’s not exactly a skill but practicing what you preach by exemplifying behaviors and actions that inhabit the core values of the company is important to have as leaders in order to motivate employees to mimic the actions and inhabit the reasonings behind it. To be honest Willie, you hit the nail on the head with the recommendations made for leaders to improve in, most especially emotional intelligence, coaching and mentoring and continuous education. As based on the survey results, leaders lack understanding of themselves and their constituents and do not portray the values and vision of the company through the actions and behaviors they portray on a day to day basis. Understanding one self and those who work around you gives leaders the ability to coach when necessary (in a way that is impactful to the constituent), mentor when witnessing struggles and or obstacles interrupting the pursuit of the vision and influence having seen the purpose of themselves and their constituents in pursuit of achieving the vision . It was also made evident there is no opportunity to learn, mentoring and coaching satisfies this need the employees are so evidently are lacking.
