MGT251-Lesson 9: Leadership Report Answer the following questions to complete your Leadership Report. a. Leadership Style Which leadership style do you believe best reflects how you would manage a team? Explain your answer. How do you feel this style facilitates employee engagement and productivity? Complete your response below. Your response must be at least 1 paragraph in length and include at least one citation to the resource provided above. Personally, I believe that a participative leadership is a great way to manage a team. I manage a small retail store and what I have found best is to work alongside with your team. Granted, in different scenarios, different types of management. For example, a small retail store of 10 employees, probably all should work alongside each other. However, a large factory of several hundred employees, everyone has their own responsibility, and it is important for a manager to enforce strict policies to prevent injuries, and a poor work environment. Participative leaders make their group feel like they’re part of a team (Rio Salado College, Lesson 9: Leadership Styles, 2020, MGT251).
b. Addressing Common Issues Managers Face What common issue that managers face today do you feel would be most challenging? How would you work to address this issue and show leadership? Complete your response below. Your response must be at least 1 paragraph in length and include at least one citation to the lesson at minimum. There are two major problems that many managers face daily. Ageism, and sexism are heavily present in the workforce. Young managers often are not given the proper respect from older subordinates because due to their young age and lack of “field experience”. The same goes for women managers, particularly in male-dominated workforces. It is not uncommon for women managers to be treated poorly just because some men believe they shouldn’t have to work for a woman. Our lesson wisely states, “Inclusion is a major factor in how effective a diverse organization functions.” (Rio Salado College, Lesson 9: Leadership Issues, 2020, MGT251). As a younger manager myself, I personally like to interact with my employees while doing tasks. In my opinion, it shows them that I can work alongside them and show them that I’m willing to work with them. |How does this promote a diverse organization? Your solution should address the two issues you describe, ageism and sexism|
c. Compare Leaders and Managers What are the differences between leaders and managers? List and describe at least three. Explain specific actions you would incorporate to ensure you are executing your leadership skills in the workplace. Complete your response below. Your response must be at least 2 paragraphs in length and include at least one citation to the lesson at minimum. According to our lesson, “ Leaders contribute by advocating change and new approaches, and do so by gaining the commitment of employees. Managers contribute by advocating stability and the status quo, exercising authority, carrying out responsibility and determining how work will get accomplished.” (Rio Salado College, Lesson 9: Leadership Roles, 2020, MGT251). It is important for a leader to distinguish themselves from the pack. A leader guides by example and works alongside their employees to gain the proper result. It’s one thing to have the title of a manager and tell people what to do. It is important to execute alongside with your crew. |It is very important to work with your team to execute tasks, but how does this contribute or advocate change and new approaches? Reference:
