Case Analysis of Chris and Alison Weston Chris and Alison Weston were an accomplished, pioneering couple who ended up being served with civil and criminal court papers and eventually serving 20 and 18 months in prison for the charges of fraud. To the best of their knowledge, the Weston’s had never envisioned or considered their actions leading to their arrest and subsequent sentencing, which surprised both their friends and the community. The analysis that follows tells of the various leadership and ethical dilemmas relating to their case. An instance of a leadership dilemma is seen in the case of Chris Weston, who acquires a new job opportunity that requires the relocation of the whole family, leaving his wife to put her career on hold so as to support him. Additionally, part of Chris Weston’s new job position required him to begin by hiring qualified employees for the company, for which he asked for help from his wife, Alison, with the staffing and recruitment processes. Both Chris and Allison went on and started a new company under Alison’s maiden name, a move which Chris justifies by saying he did so with the aim of repaying his wife’s devotion as well as a move to salvage his wife’s career, "a professional in his own right". Additionally, Chris, who holds a senior position in the company, fails to disclose information to his bosses and colleagues about the staffing company that is run by Alisson to avoid uncomfortable situations. Chris justifies this by stating that he had the authority to hire and fire and that the company culture allowed for such exploiting activities to play out in the organization. Furthermore, these activities grew out of proportion when the couple kept sending invoices and approving payment for these bills, even after months of not recruiting or staffing employees or no work done by Allison’s company.
A case of ethical quandary arises in the form of the Weston's financial security, despite the fact that they continued to receive the extra money, which they viewed as deserved remuneration for the other sacrifices the corporation was requiring of Chris. Over time, Alison started doing less and less work for each invoice she was remitting to the company. In addition, the Weston’s began to overbill for Alison’s services more regularly. This exposes them to a variety of unquestionable practices at the leadership level, along with specific actions that they both knew were unethical and illegal. As a result of changes in leadership at the company, Chris left for an entrepreneurial job in consulting and staffing, but a few months later, he was arrested together with his wife Allison. A consequence, I see, befitting of their ill-mannered and unethical practices of doing business.
