Week 5 - Discussion Forum: Reflection on Personal Leadership Hello everyone, and as we come to the conclusion of this course, it's a great opportunity for reflection and self-assessment. As Arntivius Perkins, my journey into academia began after a fulfilling career in the military, where I had the privilege of serving my country. Currently residing and working in Alabama, my pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Business Leadership at UAGC is a new and exciting challenge. At the beginning of this course, I introduced myself as a proud family man, happily married with two wonderful children. Balancing family, work, and education has been a challenge that I wholeheartedly embrace, recognizing that personal growth benefits not only me but also my family. Reflect on what you have learned throughout this course. Share any changes you have had in your perspective on your current and ideal leadership style since the start of the course. What would say is your current leadership approach? Has your leadership approach changed? Has it stayed the same? Focusing on my leadership style, I initially identified with the democratic approach, emphasizing collaboration, inclusivity, and valuing team input. My choice was rooted in the belief that involving others in decision-making leads to more well-rounded and effective outcomes. While committed to democratic leadership, I also acknowledged the importance of continuous self-improvement, aspiring to move closer to my ideal vision of a leader who excels in leveraging the strengths and talents of the team. Throughout the course, my perspective on leadership has evolved to a greater extent. However, i still firmly believe in the power of democratic leadership, but I have come to recognize the value of incorporating elements of charismatic and transformational leadership. The realization that blending these styles can create a more comprehensive and adaptable approach to leadership has been a key
takeaway for me. Currently, my leadership approach involves a dynamic blend of democratic, charismatic, and transformational styles. I appreciate the versatility that each style brings to different organizational contexts and leadership challenges. This evolution in my leadership approach signifies a more holistic understanding of leadership and its nuances. Discuss three to five specific things you have learned from taking this course Throughout the duration of this course, I can attest to its immense educational value, providing me with a wealth of insights. Firstly, I acquired a deeper understanding of the intricacies surrounding the progression towards fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. It became evident that achieving this goal is a gradual process rather than an abrupt transformation. Furthermore, my knowledge expanded concerning the intricacies of tasks such as recruitment, termination, performance assessment, and team supervision. I gained insights into how HRM principles can be effectively employed to attract, develop, and retain a diverse and highly skilled team. Lastly, I acquired valuable skills in transcending my initial assumptions and judgments regarding leaders with questionable ethical practices. Engaging in discussions prompted me to move beyond my preconceived notions about the ethical conduct of leaders, acknowledging that, despite their lapses, they can still serve as commendable role models for their followers References Northouse, P.
