The Top 3 EHR That Will Help with The Billing and Coding For Our Company. Patty Bickham
After being asked to do some research on upgrading our EHR systems for our billing and receivables department, I went at this like I would buying my new car. I did research. I wanted to know make sure we were going to be using the best systems to provide our clients with the best billing and receivable services available. With hours behind me I have settled on 3 which I will be recommending, EPIC Software, Cerner (Oracle), Nextgen. Starting with Epic, this company has been around for many of years and have been used in many healthcare facilities. The company started in 1979 in a basement of a house and not that many employees, it has grown since then. They are used in multiple different types of Healthcare facilities and institutions, and it is especially used in billing agencies and companies like ours. We are able to have use of multiple clients with unlimited patient files at our fingertips to accurately bill any insurance company we would like to. There is a feature in this program that allows the patient to have access to their own personal records with an app called MYCHART. With ability to verify insurance electronically we should be able to double our productivity without being on the phone for verification checks any further. As far as the coding and billing aspects there are protocols that are in place to correct or point out a correction is necessary, before a bill can be sent. The website is very inciteful, I ask that you see for yourself it will be in the references. [ CITATION EPI23 \l 1033 ] The next one is Cerner which merged with Oracle another leading name in the healthcare software industry. I believe that the Core EHR Capabilities will help our team with access to our clients patients critical data that is needed to put out a bill. All insurance companies are compatible with this system as well as some of the clients we currently are providing services
for. It has Chart Review for charting and documentation on what we are billing . Financially this program has what we need as far as charge services, contract management and patient accounting, however I do not see where a patient has access to their own personal information. For keeping this a complete in-house operational system, I would recommend this. However, with the electronic age I think most patients like having their medical records in at their fingertips. [ CITATION Ora23 \l 1033 ] My final company I looked at is Nextgen. Reading their webpage, I am confident it would help us with patients needs as well as our clients with their virtual front door, it allows a patient to get their medical records, patient bills or complete forms that may be needed for a claim to go through. Also making it mobile with their app seems to be making it even more accessible to the patient. [ CITATION Nex23 \l 1033 ] Programs Patient’s accessibility Security Coding Protocols Epic Yes Yes Yes Oracle, Cerner No Yes Yes Nextgen Yes Yes Yes All 3 of them have good reviews and all three do fit all coding protocols with correction features. Epic, however, is used far more in our area than the others, and it gives us faster access to the clearinghouses. My recommendation is the Epic Software because it is very easy to train on and opens up a whole new cliental possibilities.
