1 SO MANY CHOICES TO GET TO RIGHT OR WRONG In Emergency Management Taran Singh The University of Arizona Global Campus Course Code: HSM311: Ethics & Homeland Security (CAF2347A) Prof. Michael Bailey 11/27/2023
2 With the first week assignment, we go to So many choices to get to right or wrong in Emergency Management. During weather changes, incidents happen, so you need proper communication within the community as different disaster scenarios can be minor or critical. These emergency communications could be anywhere from alerts and warnings about evacuation, curfews, and other actions; for most about family members, and readily available assistance. A well-considered and efficient delivery of emergency messages can help public safety, help with the protection of the property, send out response efforts, ensure public confidence, and help bring families together. Many tools that can be used for communication such as in-person events, broadcast media, and for sure which is broadly used like the internet and social media. All aspects of communication use have their advantages and limitations depending on the objectives and intended viewers. Whichever communication tool is used, it must be clear, concise, and accurate information for the public audience, so the messages are accessible to the entire community. During an emergency, information is critical to people as food and water. Accurate information is important and can mean the difference between life and death and reassures all the responses and recovery are possible. The public eye sees this, and it can do the following: Save lives and reduce injury, protect property and the environment, facilitate the tactical response educate/inform, change behavior and attitudes, seek the public's cooperation, and most importantly bring out information to help families together (Valerie, 2007). Emergency communications are often differentiated from routine communications in different ways like Barriers, timeliness, and the required response. In several successful warnings are usually serious and are acted quickly.
3 Many ways may have an impact on people's response to a warning like an individual’s characteristics, perceptions, the message source, and the message itself (FEMA, 2014). With Alerts and possible warnings are just messages the intent is to get audiences' attention and some type of alert response. Basic terminology about warnings can be confusing. Some basic differences like a Watch vs. Warning, or an emergency message vs a warning message. A watch is simply used for a risk or something that could potentially happen whereas a warning is like a possible event that could pose a threat to property or threat to life. The Emergency messages and warnings go through the EAS (Emergency Alert System) which goes through the radio or TV (FEMA, 2014). Through all these scenarios, you must prepare yourself for briefings and public meetings. The person has to address the message clearly and build relationships in the process. When doing these public events, it is always a reminder to use these news briefings for important events or momentous information that is new to report. When in these situations, he or she must identify objectives like knowing what to accomplish; preparing the officials, and notifying the experts in advance so they have all the information ahead of time; preparing documents so everyone has a hand copy of what is happening or going to happen; taking on the tough questions that are going to be asked; and making sure everyone has the legal requirements for entry ( 20 Emergency Management Specialist Interview Questions and Answers , 2023). These are important factors in all aspects, and they are all right. I don’t think you can go wrong in Emergency management as it is a serious part of a country's quick response. We have natural disasters everywhere in the country from Flooding, Tornados, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Sandstorms, and Snowstorms, etc. We need our Emergency Management response teams along with FEMA that support in disasters.
