Report
This study has explored the intricate relationship between artificial intelligence and search engines by helping to better understand the impact AI technologies have on information retrieval as well as user experiences. Through surveys, interviews, and observational analyses several key findings have emerged. Artificial Intelligence has shown to improve search engine functionality as well as user experience. Firstly, the survey has helped in shedding light on the concerns of AI technologies. There are concerns about the privacy, legislation and ethics of search engines and these worries emphasize the significance of using AI technologies in an ethical manner as well as being more transparent with the rues to minimise the misuse of AI in the future. The interviews undertaken also found similar concerns with Artificial Intelligence where it was found that Artificial Intelligence is not necessarily a competitor for the entire search engine platform but rather supplementary to help understand user queries more comprehensively, providing more relevant search results. Finally, an observational study was conducted looking at the user’s experience in a natural setting to help us give more comprehensive data into the research topic. In the observational study it was found that even though participants are not frustrated by the lack of AI-technologies in their search engine they found it less satisfying due to the lack of efficiency without a solid AI algorithm in place in the search engine. The implications of our findings not only extend beyond to the realm of information retrieval but rather can revolutionize industries from healthcare to even e-commerce. In light of the limitations encountered in this study such as the lack of control of bias and the lack of detail and depth further research must be conducted to harness this potential responsibility ensuring that AI is developed ethically with a comprehensive understanding of the impact on society. Further study must also be done to find out how to minimise bias and perform trust between the AI and the user. This study has found the important role that AI plays in shaping the future of search engines however the privacy concerns need to be addressed as well as the ethical challenges. Through this, search engines that provide accurate and relevant information while also fostering trust and respect for user preferences can provide a more intelligent, efficient, and user-centric informational retrieval landscape.
