A1. The first packaging option I would choose is secondary packaging. The second packaging I would choose is tertiary packaging. I would choose secondary packaging for increased protection
for the mandolins as they’re being shipped. Secondary packaging was designed with the retailer in mind as well. Tertiary is for shipping and handling large quantities. They will be stacked on pallets and easily moved using forklifts. A2.
Risk 1: The wooden mandolins stored in the warehouse could crack or get damaged if the climate is too dry, humid, cold, or hot. The risk could be mitigated by having the warehouse be climate-controlled.
Risk 2: Another risk is fire damage. The company can mitigate that risk by following all fire codes and having smoke detectors and sprinklers. They could also invest in fireproof packaging for the mandolins. A3. I would use air for transporting products overseas. An advantage is that it is the fastest shipping method. The disadvantage is that it is much more costly than shipping by sea. The other shipping
method I would use is trucks. An advantage to using trucks is trucks can go anywhere there are roads which makes it convenient. A disadvantage is there could be shipment delays due to weather or traffic. A4. The two different characteristics of TMS that will aid in the transporting of the product are real-
time track-and-trace and load and route optimization. Track and trace- Using GPS devices and RFID tags, the manufacturer, retailer, and customers can monitor the location of the mandolin until it is delivered to the buyer. Load and route- It maximizes the use of space to achieve optimal load capacity. Route optimization is the driver taking the most efficient route possible, so customers receive their mandolins as quickly and as inexpensively as possible. B1.
The bottleneck is the supplier shipping low-quality raw materials which is impacting the production of mandolins, causing a delay in the distribution of the mandolins to retailers. Due to being behind schedule, the mandolins will need to be shipped by air which is more expensive and eats into profits. B2.
ADKAR model
Awareness- Inform all shareholders of the issues with the quality of raw materials from our suppliers.
Desire-The retailers will want us to change to suppliers with higher quality materials that will produce the high-quality mandolins we are known for. Knowledge-We must have high-quality materials to make mandolins so we need to find potential
suppliers that can supply the materials we need.
Ability-Produce mandolins using materials from our new suppliers.
Reinforcement- Start to fulfill deliveries on time with mandolins that are the quality we are known for. B3. One ethical consideration for the bottleneck is making sure we keep providing the same quality mandolins people are used to receiving from the company. If we started using low-quality materials and kept charging high prices, it would destroy the company’s reputation, and sales would fall. C. [Author removed at the request of original publisher].
