The chosen country is Comoros (Country in East Africa)
Format: All report parts should be double-spaced, numbered, with subheadings (for
each topic), one-inch margins, 12-point font, and follow APA or MLA format for in-text
citations and bibliography. An abstract is not necessary. Make clear and accurate use of
and cite all source material, whether the material is quoted, paraphrased, or
summarized. References MUST accompany statements of fact. Work on using your
own words and paraphrasing your research.
Part B: Nutrition Guide, Health Status and Cultural Comparison (125 points)
A. Introduction (5 points) ~50 to 80 words
●
Provide a clear and concise overview of the topic, discussing the presence (or
absence) of the government food guidance system and nutritional health in the
assigned country. Make a statement emphasizing the importance of the
relationship between your culture and the culture of your given country.
B. Nutrition Guidance System (25 points) ~150-250 words
●
Provide a brief overview of the nutritional guidance system implemented by the
government in your assigned country, similar to the United States Choose
MyPlate and United States Dietary Guidelines, highlighting its key components
and unique approach to promoting healthy eating habits. Start your research with
this link:
https://www.fao.org/nutrition/nutrition-education/food-dietary-guidelines/en/. You
can also look up various international Food Pyramids; see this link:
https://www.nal.usda.gov/human-nutrition-and-food-safety/international-nutrition.
●
If your country is not listed in the above links, choose a guidance system from a
nearby country/region with similar dietary practices or use an International
Guidance System like the World Health Organization
[https://www.who.int/publications/who-guidelines]. You must demonstrate how the
alternative system relates to your assigned country's food culture and dietary
habits.
●
Include a picture or table of the nutrition guidance system (cite it with the text
from a valid resource). The image must be clear and readable.
C. Nutritional and Health Status and Historical, Cultural, Social, Political, and/or
Environmental Influences on Present Diet (30 points) ~150-250 words
●
Evaluate the alignment or deviation of the population's food and lifestyle habits
from your assigned country's discussed food guidance system. Compare this to
demographical data such as common nutrition deficiencies, undernutrition,
overnutrition, chronic disease, etc. Support your analysis with peer-reviewed
data.
●
Analyze recent social and cultural changes influencing food choices, diet, and
overall health, considering factors like the availability of fast food, farming
practices, malnutrition concerns, and political/war influences. Provide specific
examples within a historical, social, and cultural context.
●
Integrate peer-reviewed data and other valid resources throughout this section to
substantiate your analysis and enhance its credibility. These should be cited
within the report and the bibliography.
D. Compare and Contrast Two Cultures (35 points) ~150-250 words
●
Compare and contrast your unique culture with the assigned country's culture,
providing insightful and relevant points supported by references. Explore aspects
such as geography, economic activity, population demographics (people,
diversity, languages spoken, etc.), main religions practiced, staple food items
(two from each food group), and significant differences observed in the food
guide or nutritional guidance system.
●
Reference your Individual Culture Assignment
●
Use valid resources and references to validate your points and enhance the
credibility of your
analysis. These should be cited within the report and the bibliography.
