Human Rights and Inequality: Wounded Knee Occupation
Graded portion:
Distinguish between primary and secondary sources.
Primary sources are direct experiences or artifacts made during the event, while secondary sources are created after the event.
Explain why it is important to consult a variety of sources when conducting historical research. Include specific details and examples.
Using a wide range of sources in historical research is critical for gaining numerous views and a thorough knowledge of events. Primary sources include personal recollections, such as interviews with Vietnam War soldiers or current newspaper articles. Secondary materials, such as biographies and textbooks, supplement primary sources by providing postwar facts and assessments.
Identify one primary
source that would help investigate your research question (include the title, author, and link to the source).
A Tribal Policeman’s Observations of Pine Ridge Reservation (1973). A. D. Reinhardt. (https://doi.org/10.2307/j.ctt1d9nhjk.56)
Identify one secondary
source that would help investigate your research question (include the title, author, and link to the source).
Contested boundaries: native sovereignty and state power at Wounded Knee, 1973. B. D’Arcus. https://doi.org/10.1016/S0962-6298(02)00107-5
Choose a current event related to the subject of your historical research question and explain how they are connected.
The most recent event that I can think of being connected to the Wounded Knee Occupation is the war between the Ukraine and Russia. They are linked because of the events that occurred at
both eras. They both commit atrocities of innocent people. Both are in hostage situations. Both have historical significance. The Wounded Knee Occupation resulted from violated treaties and corruption. According to my understanding, Russia is breaching or about to violate accords. Russia has also breached Ukraine's sovereignty and taken control of its territory. 1
