American Indian (Indigenous) Movement
The American Indian Movement was founded in 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. AIM began growing when a meeting was called by a group of Native American Activists, George Mitchell, Dennis Banks, and Clyde Bellecourt. The original purpose of this movement was to help the Indigenous people in poor neighborhoods and communities that have been displaced by government programs that pushed these people from their reservations. Soon AIM found the bigger goal of their movent included protection of legal rights, revitalization of traditional culture, economic independence, and autonomy over tribal areas including restoration of lands that had been illegally seized. My goal for this project is to bring awareness to the centuries-old troubles that the Indigenous people have had. I also want people to know that there is an active organization that is still working to change and better the lives of their people. Reference
