Do not use AI or ChatGPT to generate text for this assignment. I am interested in how you respond to these primary sources. You are the historian! Select at least five primary documents to analyze, and answer one of the following questions: 1) How did women cope with life on the home front during the conflict? What were some of the strategies used by women to cope with the absence of family members, the lack of economic resources, and/or the psychological toll of the war? Use letters, diaries, and/or newspaper articles to explore these issues. You can search the letters and diaries using the keyword “women.” You can also search the newspapers for the words “women” or “ladies.” 2) After the war, the Freedmen’s Bureau was created to care for the formerly enslaved peoples and to administer lands in the conquered South. In Augusta County, Virginia, the Bureau had its work cut out for it. Using documents about the Bureau, identify one or more major challenge facing African Americans after the war. You can use the Freedmen’s Bureau materials, as well as the topic index for newspapers after the war.
