HIS 100 Module One Activity Template: Project Topic Exploration
You must pick a topic from the Research Topics Lists in the Library Research Guide. While it is a good idea
to choose your topic early, you may change it until the next module. Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Support your responses with specific details and examples.
Identify the topic you chose to explore:
For my project exploration topic, I chose the racially violet event, The Tulsa Massacre.
Explain what you already know about the chosen topic based on your personal history or experiences.
My current knowledge of the subject is very slim. I have some recollection of this event from history classes in high school, however not much of the information has remained with me. I recalled that there were lots of devastating actions, however I did not recall the most important aspect of this event, being that it was racially driven.
Describe the beliefs, assumptions, and values you have related to the topic you chose.
I believe that all individuals are equal as we are all human beings living on the same earth. Reading about topics like the tulsa massacre and American slavery really bother me about how an individual can treat someone else in such a horrific way. While I understand different societies
and timelines of societies can have vastly different norms and beliefs, it is still morally wrong to treat others the way people did in these times. Explain why this topic is relevant to current events or to modern society.
This topic is relative to current events because unfortunately, racism is something that will continue to linger in American history. To support this statement, recent news states in Montana,
a man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for making racist phone calls to a church. Even though we live in a more accepting society compared to society during the massacre, racism will continue to exist in different forms. References
