Trevizo 1 Daya Trevizo Professor Adams HIST 1301.903 18 March 2023 1000603658 The West Thomas Jefferson was viewed as democratic leader as he expanded the United States. Despite the Louisiana purchase being the largest land transactions in history so significant that 200 years later it still impacts modern day America as it doubled the the size of America. The land purchased contained richess such as gold and silver and created a massive agricultural expansion for America but to truly understand the impact of the Louisiana purchase it is important to understand the positives and the negative of the purchase as it intertwined with Lewis and Clark which lead to political influence, culture exchange , westward expansion and territorial disputes. It all started when Thomas Jefferson heard rumors that Charles wished to give his daughter the little kingdom of Etruria in northern Italy in exchange for returning the large region to France. Thomas Jefferson considered this to be a danger to the American West's settlements. It was decided in 1802 that Spain's King Charles IV signed the royal decree giving the territory to France, putting American western territories at risk and prompting Congress to call for action. Talleyrand had spent the years 1792 to 1794 in exile in America after being denounced by the revolutionary National Convention and had developed a fierce hatred for Americans.Napoleon had no intention of selling the Louisiana region, but for a variety of reasons he ultimately opted
Trevizo 2 to sell to America. Napoleon sold the entire colony to the United States of America, which resulted in the greatest land deal in history at 15 million dollars. The Corps of Discovery Expedition, also known as the Lewis and Clark Expedition, was funded by the federal government following the Louisiana Purchase. Lewis and Clark were the first to explore the American West, which benefited the north by giving Thomas Jefferson knowledge of the region's climate, resources, and other factors. They also helped with diplomatic relations with native tribes. In general, Lewis and Clark played a significant role in the development of the nation. One of the many benefits of the Louisiana Purchase was the expansion of land that allowed for access to the Mississippi River and the ability to establish more state and border lines.Another advantage of the Louisiana Purchase was the economic prosperity brought on by natural resources like oil, which resulted in an expansion of the manufacturing industry which improved and advanced America.America was now regarded as the homeland of Native American tribes as well as Spanish people, which is a great example of how the Louisiana Purchase is still a part of modern-day America as America is still diverse in modern-day. All in all, the Louisiana Purchase raised America's strategic standing and earned it respect throughout the world. The Louisiana purchase also had drawbacks since the United States had to guard double the amount of territory because it acquired it so quickly, and because it had just spent $15 million, it was unable to adequately fund the military to ensure safety. It was not only expensive, but it also caused many to move. While settlement areas have increased among the indigenous tribesEnvironmental issues arose because the new land would be used for farming, and rapid deforestation had a detrimental effect on the environment. Financial issues arose because farmers could no longer afford land, which resulted in a decline in agriculture. Overall, the purchase
Trevizo 2 improved America, but the drawbacks were very detrimental to the natives and farmers. Due to the French treaty, some Federalists opposed the acquisition, while others were concerned about the political balance of the slaves. Ultimately, Americans and America gained by the Louisiana Purchase. If this acquisition hadn't been done, America today would be very different. Thomas Jefferson is regarded as a leader because he successfully colonized the west, strengthening America.
