HIS 100 Module One Activity Template: Project Topic Exploration Liddya Ward ID#2191484 You must pick a topic from the Research Topics Lists in the Library Research Guide. While it is a good idea to choose your topic early, you may change it until the next module. Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Support your responses with specific details and examples. Identify the topic you chose to explore: I have chosen to explore inequality and Human Rights. I want to dive in deeper to the Tulsa Massacre. Explain what you already know about the chosen topic based on your personal history or experiences. I think Racial Inequality and conflicts among racial diversity has been abundantly present in our history from the beginning of time. We have seen many milestones over the course of history. But with my personal experience/knowledge I see so much animosity and racism in our lives today. Over the last couple of years, we have seen a rise in the Black Lives Matter movement and that has caused a lot of turmoil for some, and during the COVID-19 pandemic and the latest Presidential elections we were seeing riots and protests from all angles on the news, across the country. Describe the beliefs, assumptions, and values you have related to the topic you chose. The beliefs and values I have towards Inequality and Human Rights seem straightforward in regard to knowing there needs to be more attention and education on the topic in our country. My personal assumptions are that things most likely won’t change much now or in the near future due to there being so much chaos, fear, and division right now with political parties, and even within communities across the country. There is a lot to unpack in this topic, but it is among some of the most important topics to be educated in. Explain why this topic is relevant to current events or to modern society. If you even slightly investigate the Tulsa Massacre, you will come to find how horrific it was and how the simplicity of the event comes down to racial conflict. Whites did not believe that Blacks should have been on the rise of becoming equals and that caused an outrage. In current events, we now see Blacks outraging against whites, and the turmoil that is being thrown at law enforcement for being assumably against African Americans, and the riots and protests that empower the BLM movement along with conflict over the LBGTQ+ community. The driving force for the historical events such as the Tulsa Massacre, are conflicts over diversity. We definitely still have conflict over diversities in modern society. Resource Mohn, E. (2021).
