Healthcare is dynamic and complex. Nurses graduating from a master’s degree program
must demonstrate competencies that will allow them to respond to current and emerging
trends in healthcare. Each week, you will address one or more of the 9 Essentials of
Master’s Education in Nursing.
As you plan, develop, implement and evaluate your informatics practicum project, reflect
on how this project and your graduate education have prepared you to meet the growing
needs of healthcare and the diverse populations we serve.
This week you will address
Essential VII: Interprofessional Collaboration for Improving
Patient and Population Health Outcomes
.
Interprofessional practice is critical for improving patient care outcomes and, therefore, key
component of health professional education and lifelong learning (American Association of
Colleges of Nursing & the Association of American Medical Colleges, 2011).
Graduate
education for Nursing Informatics emphasizes on the importance of interdisciplinary
collaboration with various healthcare professionals from healthcare providers to nursing staff and
information technology specialist for my practicum project.
This has help me grow and work
within the interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement my telemedicine project effectively.
Communication and collaboration among team members to coordinate client care is a standard of
interprofessional practice (Randel et al., 2021).
The collaboration involves a convergence
between healthcare and technology resulting in improving patient care and outcome.
I believe
working with different interdisciplinary team contributes to different and unique skill sets and
perspective for my telemedicine project.
It defines roles and responsibilities to each person and
ensures that each understand their contribution and how they fit in the objectives.
Clinical
expertise from physicians and nurses is highly important providing a deeper insights and
guidance on how telemedicine can serve patients and improve their care.
I personally feel that members from my team including providers, nursing, administration and
finance gives me feedback into designing and improving my telemedicine project.
The
communication and commitment that I showed to various stakeholders are essential for
achieving success in my telemedicine initiative.
