The servant leader's main aim is to serve others first, unlike leaders who focus solely on leading. When people prioritize serving others, they focus on helping and supporting the community around them (Thomas, 2022). Servant leaders have distinct qualities that differentiate them from other leaders. These traits create trust and loyalty among their followers, inspiring commitment to the leader's vision. However, trust initially starts with the servant leader's own belief and confidence in themselves (Thomas, 2022). Two qualities of servant leadership that significantly support interprofessional communication in patient care are empathy and active stewardship. Servant leaders demonstrate a deep understanding of others' perspectives, feelings, and needs. In a healthcare setting, empathy allows leaders to connect with diverse professionals, understanding their unique challenges, concerns, and viewpoints (Thomas, 2022). This quality fosters open communication and trust among team members, enabling them to share ideas, concerns, and information freely (White, 2022). In patient care, empathetic leaders create an environment where every team member feels heard and valued, leading to more effective collaboration and ultimately better patient outcomes. Moreover; A servant leader in healthcare practices stewardship by ensuring efficient use of resources. They might initiate programs to reduce waste, optimize equipment usage, or implement strategies that maximize the value of available resources while maintaining quality patient care. For instance, they could spearhead initiatives to recycle medical supplies or streamline processes to minimize unnecessary expenditures, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately to benefit patient care. Stewardship involves caring for something on behalf of others and acting in the best interest of the entire group. It involves shifting attention from individual benefits to what serves the greater good (Dittrich, 2019). By fostering a culture of responsible resource management, the servant leader promotes a sense of stewardship among healthcare professionals, ensuring that resources are utilized effectively to serve the best interests of patients and the community (White, 2022).
