HLTH160 Services Learning Guideline “Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Service-learning combines service objectives and learning objectives with the intent that the activity will change both the recipient and the provider of the service. Research has shown that students engaged in service-learning showed an increase in the degree to which they felt aware of community needs, believed they could make a difference, and were committed to service in the future, 8 and communities involved in service-learning have shown decreased numbers of people engaging in risky behaviors . The changes in the provider occur through the combination of service tasks and structured opportunities that link the service task to self-reflection, self-discovery, and the acquisition and comprehension of values, skills, and knowledge content” (Buckner, Ndjakani, Banks & Blumenthal, 2014) Part 1 The group project Topic Selection Due 2/23/2022 Guideline on Choosing your topic You should choose a topic that current community, state, or national data identify as a current topic of concern.
