Case Study Scenario: Jemima is 35 years old and comes to see you to ask advice on how to improve her health. Jemima is a paraplegic after being in a car accident a few years ago and uses a wheelchair to mobilise. Her mother has recently died of complications from type 2 diabetes and also had a history of cervical cancer. Jemima is now worried about her risk of becoming diabetic. She has not had a check-up with the GP for over a year so is not up to date with having a Pap Smear and has not had a cervical cancer vaccination. Her height is 1.63m and weight is 95 kgs. According to BMI calculations this puts her in the obese category. As a child, Jemima had recurrent ear infections. She used to smoke but quit three years ago and has a few beers most nights of the week. Jemima tries to eat a healthy diet but often has takeaway food as she finds it a bit of an effort to cook for herself. Since the accident, she does very little exercise and she has also stopped socialising with her friends. As Jemima’s healthcare worker you ask Jemima for consent to complete a health assessment with her. She gives her consent. Using the Health Assessment table below: 1. For each element of the health assessment listed in the first column, provide an example of two body systems that may be affected or have an impact on the activity/issue in the second column. 2. In the third column, provide an example of two organs/body parts in the body systems identified (in column two) that may be affected from the activity/issue listed in first column. 3. In the fourth column, provide one example of how that system or organ/body part might be affected. As a guide to what is required, one answer for each question has been provided in table.
