Assignment #3- My Plate This is the Greek chicken salad from Safier Mediterranean Deli. My meal contains spicy chicken, vegetables like lettuce, cucumbers, pickles, and tomatoes, and rice with some garlic sauce on the side. According to MyPlate food groups, my meal contained about 1 cup of vegetables, 5 ounces of chicken, ½ cup of refined white rice, and 4 oz of diary included in the garlic sauce. I believe my meal included 4 of the 5 food groups i.e. vegetables, grains, protein and diary. However, something I was missing from my meal was fruits and a lack of diary. I can include fruits in my meal by drinking a cup of fruit juice or eating some dried foods on the side. In addition to that, I increase my diary intake by adding a cup of milk or yogurt to my meal.
This is a homemade lasagna made by me. This lasagna includes vegetables like tomatoes, onions, and garlic. These vegetables contribute essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber to the meal. My lasagna contains protein from ground beef. The primary source of grains in lasagna is the pasta itself. Lasagna noodles are made from wheat flour, making them a significant part of the dish. In addition to providing protein, dairy is also represented by cheese. Typically, lasagna does not contain fruits as a direct component. However, I can incorporate fruits into my meal by serving a side salad to make the meal more balanced and aligned with MyPlate recommendations. While lasagna often contains vegetables in the sauce or between layers, I can increase the vegetable content by adding more veggies like zucchini, eggplant, or bell peppers.
This is chicken over rice from the Halal Guys in New York. According to MyPlate food groups this meal contains 3 of the 5 food groups.Chicken is the primary source of protein in this dish. Chicken is a lean protein that provides essential amino acids necessary for various bodily functions. Rice is the primary source of grains in this meal, it is a carbohydrate-rich food that provides energy. This meal also contains vegetables like olives, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and some lettuce. Typically, "chicken over rice" does not contain fruits as a direct component. However, I can include fruits in my meal by serving a side salad or a fruit- based dessert. Also, while chicken over rice is not traditionally a dairy-rich meal, I can complement it with a side of yogurt or a dairy-based sauce.
